Component Deals & Selection / Re: Groupset News

Bikeradar had a review of the new Superstrata 3d printed road bike which has the L-TWOO GR9 mechanical group. They weren't very impressed with the ergonomics or the shifting.

https://www.bikeradar.com/reviews/bikes/road-bikes/superstrata-classic-review/

The review makes for interesting reading. Basically, that bike is $2800 but features incredibly cheap components, terrible geometry, and it's incredibly heavy for a road bike.

That bike looks like it was engineered by people who don’t actually ride bikes.
And as mentioned, the thumb shifter on the mechanical group is terrible. The hydro thumb shifter is placed like campagnolo, which is why I was interested in it. I rode campy chorus on my Chinese carbon road bike back in the day.

Cyclocross Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Flyxii FE-02 Build

Good luck with the build! Post photos. The frameset did not include handlebar or you chose not to?

Thanks! Its going to be a slow process. Just realized frame probably won't be here til end of February or so. I'll use this time to figure out what drivetrain I want to use. Leading toward GRX or Sram Apex 1x. If the Ltwoo hydro stuff gets a price drop I might still entertain that option, but at its current price point its just not worth the risk/hassle.

This is an older model frame with standard cable routing, so no proprietary handlebar/stem/headset. That's really the main reason I chose this frame.

Someone on Trace Velo's post shared their experience and that they're using Ltwoo shifters with grx derailleurs.

Carbon crankset by taiwanese company. Price is out of the "budget" range for sure though.

You can get 600 shifters, 810 derailleur (42t) and callipers for 440 at bike24

Best I can do stateside is Merlincycles for about $530.  :-\
Still might go that direction for my build.

The hubs are a potential weak point. They could be fine, or they could be trash. Not worth the risk in my opinion and better to pay a little more for hubs that are at least more common and can find parts for.

I'm starting to get the conclusion that in AliExpress:

- All 'original' parts are not original. Shimano is a clear example. Their pedals, chains, casettes are all fake.
- What is original costs actually more than in Amazon and most local stores ... .
- All knock-offs or 'inspired' products are shite.
- Everything that includes 'moving parts' or bearings is crap. One exception I found are stone pulleys ... these are actually fine and their steel bearings are decent.
- Everything that includes ceramic bearings is a huge shite.
- Non-branded carbon parts are usually fine (handlebars, frames, rims, forks), but there are some lemons too.

Chains are known for counterfeits, even on amazon or ebay. Haven't tried my luck with cassettes.
There are some genuine oem shimano products you can find on Ali, but they'll be priced accordingly.
I have yet to trust chinese hubs. I don't think the quality of aluminum is there.

Do you have a link for the stone pulleys?

I just found a princessbike seller on eBay that carries SuperTeam wheels. I wonder if they're related.  ;D

Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm currently looking for wheels for a gravel bike and Elite looks like the go to for value and dependability.

The link you posted sent me to a wheelset that says novatech hubs. Did you get a custom set or is the link not working for me.

Seems like they've been around for a while. Have good reviews. Lots of build options and price on par with other sellers. Honestly kind of surprised I haven't heard of them with all the Ali exploring I've done.

Now I'm considering them for my upcoming gravel build.

Found this while browsing for a new gravel wheelset, seems to have positive reviews and I can't find any negative things online... Anyone have any first hand experience?

I'd strongly recommend buying a wheelset that tells you all the specs in case you need to buy replacement parts later.

Let us know how they go.

I bought these ZNIINO  bars but I found the shifters slipped even with carbon paste, needing to tighten them to a point where I was sure it would damage the carbon bars.... also, for my preference the bars weren't thick enough, but that's personal preference I guess.

For anyone in Sydney, Australia my Zniino bars are free to a good home.

Oh man. I'll keep an eye on that. Might have to get an alloy bar as a backup just in case. What shifters were you using?

Pulled the trigger on some 30 degree flare ZNIINO bars. Most likely won't ship until after Chinese new year festivities.
