Vendor Discussion & Reviews / Re: BTLOS vs DiyCarbonBikes
« on: March 01, 2022, 09:58:23 AM »
Thanks for the input! That’s swaying me even more to BTLOS.

Sorry to hear. Are you planning to get another fork from a different vendor to complete the build?

Hi Eddy,

I'm interested in buying 2 of these frames, Is there a discount for 2?

Thanks!

If you’ve read up on the other threads and understand the work it’ll take to make it somewhat functional, then by all means go ahead. Otherwise proceed with extreme caution.

Vendor Discussion & Reviews / BTLOS vs DiyCarbonBikes
« on: February 28, 2022, 03:52:32 PM »
Hey guys.

Help me finalize my decision. I'm primed to pull the trigger on some carbon wheels for my mtb. Here is the pertinent info for the options I'm looking at. I like the stateside customer support from Diy, but overall I like the build of btlos. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts or experiences with either vendor.

Or is there another vendor I'm totally overlooking at this pricepoint?

Rear Hub Spacing : 12x148 BOOST

Nipple Color: Black (60g)

Btlos- $623

That canecreekstore is definitely a phony scam site. But I'm kinda glad it seems Cane Creek is finally outed as made in China and "assembled" in America. Lots of dancing around the topic in their statements and in those threads.

Hope this gets sorted out for you. Keep us updated. It’ll be good info to have on how this vendor handled this.

I think that’s the right fork but you need a different sized bearing. Whether you want to use that fork is up to you. I doubt you’ll get a refund unless there is visible damage to the fork.

Carbon cranks didn’t really catch on like frames did. The few options I found seem pretty limited in compatibility. If you find something that works, let us know how it goes.

Nothing in this fork inspires confidence.
The hole drilled, the overall appearance really looks amateur job... :-\

Glad I'm not the only one who thought this. The steerer is one of the most critical points on the bike. Lots of wrinkles means lots of voids. Could be ok, or could be disaster waiting to happen. On a gravel bike which may be taking lots of bumps, I wouldn't ride that.

Hopefully you haven't ridden it or put weight on it with the wrong size bearing. That'll put stress on the steerer in ways that may compromise it.

Metal Frames / Re: Aluminium Gravel Frame
« on: February 18, 2022, 12:16:16 PM »
Sonder sells the Camino AL frame for $360 USD. It's not that much cheaper than an unbranded carbon frame, although it has massive tire clearance and a progressive geometry.

I was using the Camino as a price guide to compare a possible Chinese build. Camino WAS a great deal...but prices have seem to have shot up drastically. Camino frame is now $650. Its renewed my search for cheap alu frame or might send me the carbon route.

26er & 27.5 (650b) / Re: DNM rear shock anyone?
« on: February 16, 2022, 09:08:29 AM »
Good evening from Austria!

Has anyone had experiences with DNM suspension parts? In particular their rear shocks. I was thinking about getting either a air-sprung AOY-36RC or go for the more heavy duty coil sprung RCP3 shock. Strangely i need 190x51mm for my frame(that's what i measured) and it only gives right about 120mm of travel. It's a really cheap full sus with no real working shock or fork. I want to get a working shock without spending several hundred € on a name brand like Rockshox, Fox or Marzzocchi.
All the reviews i find online are either a 13yr old slightly obese american kid that acts all like"in da hood" or too short and very general ones.
Their website looks legit, genuine but with the alrdy well known google translator kinda english.
if there was alrdy made a thread about DNM, im sorry didn't find it now.

You may find this helpful.

He's strictly road bikes, but Trace Velo has been a handy channel when it comes to understanding aliexpress items. I found this vid on axle failure insightful. Apparently alu is not the ideal material for axles.

I'm a fan of Spexcel and LuBi. LuBi bibs did run a little small but they had a nice side pocket.

Don't think I've ever seen good mtb clothing on Aliexpress to be honest. But I'm an XC bro so the spandex is ok for me.

Chinese new year is a major holiday. Might not be up for another week or more.

Vendor Discussion & Reviews / Re: Avian carbon wheels? Any experiences?

Looks like just another Ali storefront. 0 feeback on their store which has only been open for about 3 weeks. Maybe those more experienced here can recognize what they use for their builds.
