Cyclocross Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Carbonda Gravel CFR505 build
« on: September 01, 2022, 11:36:17 PM »
...Also curious to hear if the frame has held up well!

I didn't know it was available again, that is a great news!

I've built a few dozen of them, not a single issue reported.
And I plan to have a week ride with it in Croatia next month  8)

584mm ERD on FHR930C, which is 583mm on YHR930C, I think you can reuse the spokes

Wonderful !! I send you an email..

6 years used, quite a long time :)
We don't make that FHR930C rim any more, maybe you can replace with YHR930C rim without spoke holes.
:D

Yes, 6 years ! And of hard riding, that speaks about the quality of your products :D

Does the YHR930C has the same ERD as the FHR930C ?
So I can reuse the spokes.

Yes, this is me, long time no speaking, buddy.

By a totally incredible coincidence, two weeks ago, I did break a rim from a 2016 wheelset I did order from you. And bam! You're here.
By any chance could  you still source a FHR930C rim without holes ?
No worries if not, I would understand, it was 6 years ago  8)

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Velobuild VB-R-168 Frame

I have a BB92 on my FM-936(same as BB86 but 6mm wider) while I had ordered it as BSA.
Being heavily Hambinized at the time, I was very disappointed(big spindle in small hole = very bad  ;D)
But installed a DUB spindle anyway as I had it already.

After a year plus with the SRAM BB86/92 DUB and a heavy usage, races and mud, it is still surprisingly smooth.

On other bikes I tried GXP, BBinfinite(similar to Hambini), BB30, PF30, Wheels mfg and some Aliexpress PF by screw.
On all of these I was changing the bearings once or twice a year.

Moral of the story... for a DUB I would go every time with the SRAM, it is cheap and reliable.
And maybe look for something else only if unlucky, but probably the frame is then the problem (not concentric, or not circular holes) and any alternative won't probably work either.

Vendor Discussion & Reviews / Re: Carbonda frame testing?
« on: August 29, 2022, 09:11:22 AM »
Hi
Has anyone information of how the frames are tested? I could find info about testing phase from lightcarbon on the tube, but nothing on carbonda or flybike.

How to be sure the info and pictures we see about lightcarbon aren't from another factory ? ;D
As Zomb1e said, trust what you read here, there's plenty of posts about many brands, and for years.

Carbonda site is quite clunky. They sell the frames of Flybike Asia.
http://www.flybike-asia.com/product/260.html

As with many builders here, you order by email.
Either the email you can find on their website, or you can contact Wing: wing (at) carbonda.com

Enter.

The M0009 is a great simple frame.

29er / Re: 29er XC Hardtail - Boost - Modern Geometry
« on: August 22, 2022, 02:43:56 PM »
Sorry but 69 HA angle is nothing near "modern" or "progressive" geometry :(

Aaaah... these youngsters do not remember we were riding 72º HA not so long ago  ;D
What would you consider to be a good angle ?
The Trifox mentionned here has 68.5º

How about putting a 120mm fork on it?

Component Deals & Selection / 250g rims from Lightbicycle
« on: August 22, 2022, 02:54:23 AM »
Lightbicycle is offering two new rims.
One for XC and one for gravel both at around 250g !

The XC924 and the AR25

Apparently the AR25 has a different layup to make the hooks stronger for 4.8bar/70psi tire pressure and 2.8bar/40psi for the XC924.
Otherwise they look quite the same.

Not sure about their hybrid hook except it looks pretty  :)
I run 29er hookless 300g rims on my gravel and never lost a tire.

The Trifox sdy20 is 73mm bb?  Site has it listed as BSA 68mm.  Can you confirm?

I found Trifox frames to be a little too expensive, for nothing great in return.
Carbonda just released one hardtail again with an interesting geometry: http://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,3800.0.html
I will probably build 2 of them in the coming weeks, to test.

Did you check the FM1036A from Carbonda? It just popped out recently.
There is another post here about it.

...it wiggles significantly ...

Did you check if your headset is tight ?
Can you spot where the wiggles comes from?

A triangle of carbon tubes like this, can't really flex, unless cracked.

Did you check that one ? The cryptically named FM1036A, from Carbonda
