This the giant bike i would compare a build to...

http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-ca/bikes/model/tcx.slr.2/20528/80031/

I would use this bike for the odd ride on the road, training in the basement offseason and take it out when im feeling like a new steed on the xc trails....

I am semi interested in getting a cycle-cross bike. With zero road experience, what are some fundamentals you guys would suggest? Group-sets bang for buck. Anyone rocking a full Chinese carbon, handle bar, stem, seat post, combo to keep things cheaper? Any big no-no's.
Brakes seem to be a big debate.

I see you can get pretty nice bikes from giant and with 0 Knowledge wondering if the savings are shown as they are in the Mountain bike side of things.

i have used all but XTR pedals so xt and slx spds, The Ritchey's Perform no different only lighter. I guess thats what i wanted considering i am on a carbon bike forum looking for weight savings.

So if your looking to spend around 100-200 the Ritchey's would be my choice after using my for over 2k.

I'm talking gram per dollar. If you are buying crank bros cause of weight which was mentioned i assumed that was something you were interested in.

Get the Ritchey pedals works with SPD cleats, lighter and cheaper then Shimano comparisons.

Huh?  The link you sent were $98 pedals, plus $10 shipping.  I know CRC has codes/sales/etc, but both of the Shimano's I listed above are under $50...

I'd also like to hear your thoughts on the Syntace P6.. Is it a night and day difference compared to a normal carbon post?
I also own a syntace p6 on my chiner, and would say its about 3x as shock absorbent as I thought it would be, im light at 150lbs and the flex is incredible yet not flimsy, http://velonews.competitor.com/files/2012/05/090_VeloJun.jpg  I find it incredible that some stiff seatposts are more  dampening then a thudbuster....

The P6 does take the sting out of some larger lumps. It not a suspension post like a Thudbuster...but it does soften up some hits. It makes an aluminum post feel like a jackhammer. The farther you slide your rear back on the saddle...the more damping you feel.

Thanks for the input. I've long considered the short travel version of the Thudbuster and was wondering how the P6 compared as an alternative.

Peter has treated me amazing and i assume he will help you out as it looks like he already has.

Its a real bummer they would push you out of a company you help start/create/innovate and just get it the name out there.

Good luck on your new venture and I will be sure to tell my bike club of the new company when you have it.

Maybe go for a name that isn't so fabricated in the CHINESE carbon bikes. I mean xmiplay sounds scary for alot of buyers in Canada. They feel like they are going to deal with someone who can't speak english and wont care about what they just sent $1000's of dollars over paypal for.

The more the new store sounds like a legit online frame maker ( WHICH it is)the better.

I think what carbon dude is saying is. You shouldn't need anything. Put top bearing in. Basically drops in for me maybe a bit snug. Press the bottom one in. I did mine by hand. And then run fork thru. I think you will see how it goes together just doing it.!!

If you still have wobble. Could be the little washers or compression ring installed in wrong order!!. I never had any issues with my neco from peter. For my IP 256.

Wow thanks guys thought my tread was dead... Still haven't serviced as it's in use on my trainer ATM... What did you end up going with for the rear? For bearings?

Took over a hour to tubeless my first maxis aspens. Which aren't tubeless ready. But ever since then I have taken them off tons and put back on. For some reason its instant now.

I feel that air compressor power means a lot on hard to seat tires. Fat bike tubeless experience says this. But with these small tires its the first burst.

I also let the air blow through the holes spitting glue for 30 sec and then stop and repeat. Maybe it does nothing but eventually it seats.

Just so you know it can be done and I never had a flat all year.

Component Deals & Selection / novatec hubs from iplay
« on: December 09, 2014, 12:03:46 AM »
I'm looking into servicing my hubs during the winter. I really don't want to buy a full novatec bearing puller kit. Anyone have any experience with the 771 and 772 hubs.

I have to be honest never serviced a hub before but taken them apart to regrease the external bearing area. And check the bearings.

Any suggestions. Novatec USA service is sub par. Almost feel I should rebuild my wheel set and get hubs that offer tons of service tools and parts. (Hope)
