I would still buy it.  I actually really like this frame and have had some amazing rides on it.  I kind of painted myself in a corner since I have the 1003/1266 and also the 1286 DH bike. I was using the 1003 for lift serve park riding and all mountain trips but now the DH bike handles all the lift serve stuff. So my 1003 is much more narrow focused and actually kind of redundant.  Nothing bad about the bike, I just an issue with my bike purchases.

I really like the solid rear triangle as it means less bearings to replace and to go bad on me. Alsoi had great luck with building it up. Everything went together very well and the guide tubes were great for cable routing ease. The frame seems a bit heavy but my final build was around 36lbs with aluminum wheels and 38mm fork.  I think the weight helps it stay stable in the rough stuff.  I was very impressed with the bike when I was in Utah.

I would also recommend this frame, even though it’s a single-pivot design.

It actually works really well with a coil shock, so I would recommend using one.

Regarding the number of bearings: there are quite a lot, which isn’t ideal.

Some linkage bolts may come loose when riding hard, but that can be fixed with Loctite. Also worth noting is that the alloy used here is very soft (maybe cheap?), so you can bend the derailleur hanger quite easily.

When changing the bearings, the soft alloy can be a bit of a problem as well. If you’re replacing the linkage bearings, be careful not to install them crooked. (Tip: put the bearings in the freezer so they shrink slightly!)

Performance-wise, the frame is really great. Even though it’s from 2021, it still feels very modern.

I would also recommend having them paint it if you don’t want the black finish — their prices are reasonable and the quality is good.

The only real issue I had was the cable guide, which broke on my frame. (I received a new front triangle under warranty.)

Finally got my 1266 up and running. Still need to tweak the shocks, but I’m very happy with it.

Looks fire!

Pls feel free to give a more thorough update, once you dialed in your suspension, I'm very curious about this frame!

How much did you pay for it, and did you find any problems with it so far?

I have posted my 1266 for sale if anyone is looking.  it is in the classified section.

I love this frame but I have a 160mm and the 1286 DH bike and this bike just never gets used anymore.  I have more pics if anyone is interested.

Hey guys, small update.

I ride a lot of bike park laps, so my bike is pretty much set up for DH. By that I mean I'm running a Saint drivetrain and a DH-focused setup.

One thing that always bothered me was that the rear suspension seemed to lock up under braking. It felt really harsh on braking bumps.

I tried everything: different tires, opening up the high-speed compression on my coil shock, and a bunch of other setup changes.

No matter what I did, I just couldn't get the bike to feel good with a full 29" setup.

The suspension felt really stiff, the rear wheel would hit my seat pretty often, cornering felt terrible, and even on really rough trails the bike just wasn't confidence-inspiring.

After talking with a few friends, they suggested trying a mullet setup. At that point I honestly thought the geometry would be completely messed up and ride even worse. I was already looking at buying a new bike.

So I picked up a cheap 27.5" ZTTO rear wheel just to test it.

Bike park day comes around, I swap the rear wheel, leave everything else basically the same...

Completely different bike.

Every single complaint I had was GONE.

The suspension works amazingly now. Even under braking it doesn't feel like it locks that much up anymore. Cornering is so much better, the head angle feels way more confidence-inspiring for DH, and the bike still jumps really well.

What surprised me the most is that I didn't even get pedal strikes. I'm on a size M frame with 165 mm cranks.

So yeah... for me, mullet is absolutely the way to go. The full 29er setup just wasn't working, but with a 27.5" rear wheel the bike finally rides the way I always wanted it to.

Thanks for this! I’m actually looking at doing the same on mine. My E bike is mullet and really loving it

What ZTOO wheel did you go with?
