Speeder Cycling SC-R49D

Hi all, this is a first time build for me, which I just finished building. This will be a first introductory post to describe my experience. After spending numerous hours (including here on Chinertown) I decided on which bike I would build with the following primary parts:

Speeder SC-R49D (because of the aggressive geometry, and the aesthetics of the wheels "cutting" in the frame)
ER9 (as an entry level priced electronic groupset /  12 speed)
Elitewheels Pro 55mm disc (had good experience with rim wheels before / are friendly priced)
105 crankset
+ 105 power meter (comes from previous bike)

Good:
- the bike is exactly what I expected in to be in terms of aesthetics
- seemingly built well (although I will return here after I had plenty of km's on it)
- reasonably priced (1000 USD for frame, handlebar, headset, fork, seatpost and shipping)
- Speeder is OEM for Winspace
- standard position is VERY aggressive (which is exactly what I was looking for)

Medium:
- sticker on the box mentioned the frame in another size (thankfully the actual frame was correct)
- the communication was alright, although he could have been a bit more transparent in terms of producing / shipping times (only mentioned AFTER purchasing the frame: 3 months)

Bad:
- both headset bearings had a lot of play, which stressed me out as I thought I had a faulty frame. Thankfully, after finding one of patliean1 posts on headset play, I reduced it to almost zero with adding a couple of layers of tape in the socket of the bearings.

Open issue:
Now that the bike is fully built, I wanted to take it on a couple of rides. However, I can already feel it pedals very heavy and even backpedaling feels heavy as well. Both wheels spin very freely, and the crank set without chain also somewhat freely (my old bike was better in this regard).  I just tried pedaling back, and it seems like the cassette does not want to spin, as the chain will just lose tension and curl up.

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? Thanks!

is your chain freshly waxed, by any chance?

Yes, it is indeed freshly waxed. The chain was making an enormous amount of noise though when it was cleaned to just metal.

yep that's it, then. no big deal, just bike your bike and it'll stop after 30min or so once all the excess wax breaks off and the chain starts to move freely.

Did you weigh everything before building it up?

No, I did not weigh the parts separately. The total build comes down to 7.8 kg (as seen in the picture). And to my calculations, it does mean the parts (as least of a sum from Speeder Cycling) are close / identical to their presented weight.

I am 183 cm with an inner leg length of 88.5 cm. The frame size is a 50, and fits me well. I do need to get accustomed to the shifters, as my hands feel slightly awkward holding them.

Ltwoo groupset
I just finished my first ride where I did not have issues with the groupset. For anyone with an ERX / ER9 groupset, I suggest you add some ductape between the connectors for both derailleurs. After I did this, the groupset has been incredible, and is a dream to work with. Especially for that price (~500 eur).

The only downside now is how my hands fall into the shifters. This is obviously a personal topic, as the shifters might fit you like a glove, but it feels incredibly awkward, as if my hands are simply too large. I will play around with the shifter position on the handlebar, but if that does not resolve the issue, I might take the route of 3d printing a mold that perfectly fits my hand (on top of the shifter). Has anyone thought about this before?

Speeder frame
This frame is asking for speed, and when getting in the aero hoods position, it is incredible how easy it is able to hold high speeds. 62 kmphs was no problem on an extended piece of flat road.

The frame feels stable and stiff, and regardless of how much power I push through the pedals it remains composed.

Finally, I have had an enormous amount of compliments of people while riding / cleaning the bike, and I have to wholeheartedly agree with them that it looks absolutely stunning.

Have you ridden the Shimano 12s Di2?  Are they smaller than those?  They're already very low volume.  They look a bit bigger than the Shimano brifters, though I haven't compared them side by side.

My other bike has a 105 Shimano set, and they do feel more natural to my hands. However, after playing around with this setup a little bit more, I came to the conclusion that I have not set them up correctly. Will hopefully get them more comfortable within the next couple of days.

What tires are you running? I’m looking at getting skin wall ones myself
