Gravel Frame with 2.1 or more tire clearance

Any recs for gravel frames with beefy tire clearance.

650b x2.1 or even 2.25??

I have been looking for a wide tire gravel frame as well.   (Something like a Salsa Cutthroat.)   This appears to be a very niche market.   I have found a few forks that fit 60mm tires, but gravel geometry frames are no where to be found on Aliexpress.

I believe the reason is that as soon as you try to fit wide rear tires, the frame rear triangle has to become longer to accommodate the tire, or you have to go with a wider bottom bracket.   As soon as you start messing with these frame features/geometry, you quickly get into 29er hardtail frame geometries.  Therefore just purchase a 29er hardtail frame and repurpose the bike to gravel by putting on more gravel specific parts.

The Carbonda 696 and 707 are rated for 27.5 x 2.1 as is the Voicevelo Major G.

As far as I know there are no open mold bikes designed to take 27.5x 60mm / 2.35" like the OPEN Wi.De. I think the primary reason for that is that its only recently that top racers have started using XC tires on gravel and there was a false belief that 650b is slow wheel size largely because the 45-48mm 650b tire size tended to attract "tough" and not "fast" tire designs. If you do ultra distance gravel events or races, you will be surprised at how popular 27.5 Thunderburts or RaceKings are, but that is a very niche market.

If you want something with that much clearance, designing a bike with Waltly or XACD is a potential way to go. Another would be to get a frame like the Surly Midnight special and lighten it up with a carbon fork like the Speeder Adventure fork.

I only have good things to say about carbonspeed's Grevil clone & Peter himself (Peter is on the forum. http://www.xmcarbonspeed.com/Productinfo.asp?f=1639). My er9 died on it after 4 rides, but i really enjoyed it. it's very roadie, in the sense that you can go really fast on it on smooth roads. It's the same geometry exactly as the Grevil, and Pinarello do know a thing or 2 about bike geometry apparently. it takes 50C, and so it takes 650B w 2.1 inch tyres, afaik.

Looks really good! Do you have a standard 105 di2 road derailleur? How is the clearance with those tires?

Looks really good! Do you have a standard 105 di2 road derailleur? How is the clearance with those tires?

 

It's pretty much the limit for clearance on the back, about 7mm clearance on the front.
There is about 3.5mm of clearance of the knobs on the seat stays, 2mm clearance on the Di2 box on the FD, about 9mm clearance on the chainstays. 

These tires measure 53mm on these rims.

Yeah, this is just a long cage 105 Di2 RD, running 11-36.

2.25 def wouldn't fit in 29er/700c, they *probably* would work with 650b (guessing here).

I'll need to post the picture later, but for giggles I used a 15x100 29er MTB wheel with a 2.1 Schwalbe Rocket Ron to prop up the front end on my Grevil clone while I work on the headset bearing/spacer install and there's still a surprising amount of room within the fork blades making me think it could probably manage 650B x 2.3 to 2.4.
