2:1 Lacing issues with carbon spokes?
« on: August 07, 2024, 08:57:35 AM »
Hey there,

I’ve noticed a growing trend where Chinese manufacturers are using radial lacing on the disc brake side, which is generally considered a no-go for many wheel builders and is prohibited by Shimano’s manual. Is this practice normal for carbon spokes? Is it safe, and have there been any reported issues with it? Even Winspace includes this design in their high-tier wheels.

You mean like these ? For the rear?
The braking power on the rear is really minor compared to the front brake. But by this 2:1 approach you gain much more evenly tensioned spokes and thus also the non drive side is high in tension. And the 3x cross pattern is on the drive side.
For the front 21H with 2:1 puts the 3x crossed side to the break. Also in the result you have much more even tension.
There are in fact quite some wheels for disc with 21h 2:1 , also with steel spokes.
(Just to not mix it:The  winspace front wheel shows a crossed pattern on both sides)
