Hi,

I am not sure if I am explaining correctly but with the preload ring fully backed out, when I tighten to spec, I overload the bearing and the crankset doesn't rotate freely. Is there any way around that? Sanding down the preload ring?

You might want to add which crank and which type of bb it is.

If there is enough material, it can be done. Alternatives: Face the bb shell down a few 1/10 (again, only if there is enough material) or just leave the preload ring out and try a wave washer instead.

Zrace hardrock crankset with BB92. Will look at sanding the preload ring or took it out as you suggested to see exactly how much play I need to take out...
Thanks for the advice

I had this problem with senicx and t47. Had to remove the preload ring and just put spacers.

I ended up sanding down the lip on the adjuster to increase a little the clearance and it did the trick! I think I probably had to remove 1/12 to 1/16th of an inch
