So I did a ~800km bikepacking trip on these wheels setup with 44mm Tufo Thundero HD's and they were fantastic. With luggage all loaded up my gravel bike was ~17kg, my weight 90kg so system weight of around 107kg. Mixed gravel and asphalt, maybe 40/60 split. I really like the feel and had no problems. Next week I will hopefully do another trip with the 50mm deep version of this wheel with road tires, will report back.

How much those thunderos measure on this rims

On my last ride, I noticed that my rear wheel was starting to run sideways. (see attachment)

I've been riding this Wheelset for about 600km.

The setup features D50CU-33 T1100 rims with Pillar Wing 20 spokes.

Have the spokes settled again and do they need to be readjusted, or is there a problem?

There's no visible damage and I haven't hit a pothole.

given the very distinct buckle in a single spot i might hazard to guess that an aluminum spoke nipple has cracked at its shoulder (happens to the best of wheels). if you lightly feel the spokes at the location of the buckle you should be able to find the one spoke that's untensioned and only held in place because of the remaining part of the nipple holding it in the rim.

if that is the case it's an easy fix in the grand scheme of things but a bit of a faff if you're running tubeless and have to empty sealant, remove rim tape and re-tape the rim after fix.

This is exactly the configuration I want to order. Is there anything that can be improved in this configuration, or are you going to order all the highest specifications available from Peter? Can you let me know the final cost of this configuration?

These aren’t my wheels, obviously, but they represent the highest specifications currently available in this configuration—T1100 carbon paired with the new 18/18 hole spoke hubs.

Best to WhatsApp Peter directly for pricing, but last I checked, they were around $950 USD (excluding shipping).

The only update from XM CarbonSpeed at the moment is that they’re developing a 16-spoke front hub and exploring hidden nipples for carbon spokes. However, there’s no confirmed release date—you’ll need to ask Peter, though it’s unlikely he’ll give a timeline since testing and development take as long as they take.

As sander said these are pretty much the highest spec Peter does right now. My other set are the same but 50mm with 20 hole spokes. With 1180g. Went with the new hub to save a few grams.
Price was $980 plus shipping. Need to get them set up but my 50s are absolutely awesome. I’m hoping the 65mm will be be bit quicker for Flat riding.

And finally, my wheels are being shipped tomorrow!

Originally, I wanted titanium-colored hubs, but Peter is busy with Eurobike and wouldn’t have been able to send them out until afterward because the hubs needed anodizing. So, I was offered black hubs instead — no big deal since black was the original spec, but I had changed my mind.

New 18- and 18-hole hubs

UD paintless finish

CS-D50CU-31 disc brake carbon road rim: 50mm depth, 33mm wide, 24mm internal width

CS-D65CU-31 disc brake carbon road rim: 65mm depth, 33mm wide, 24mm internal width

Spoke holes on rim bed

5mm carbon spokes made from T1100 carbon

I was told the weight would be 1200 grams, but it came in just a smidge under at 1196g — beating my old CRW Gen 1s at 1280g and even the new ones at 1250g! 😄

Now comes the painful wait as I watch the parcel tracking slowly make its way from China to the UK… hopefully, it arrives quicker than expected! :(

How are these holding up for you? I'm 75kg and trying to pin down which spoke count to pick. I'm getting these same rims. I was considering 18 in the front and 20 in the rear. Had no idea 18 in the rear was safe. I ride in the road, but there can be gravel in the road occasionally and I'm worried if I hit a pot hole the rear will break with only 18 holes and all my weight on the rear. What do you think?

How is the UD paintless finish holding up? Saving 40 grams of rotating weight is tempting, but I'm worried about chipping the carbon. My old painted carbon rims get chips in the paint. Maybe if I have no paint it will chip out the carbon and epoxy?

I have ordered a wheel set from Peter.l at XM Carbon speed and a few hundred miles in I’m very satisfied!

Ordering process was fast. Delivery was even faster to the Netherlands.

Forgot to add the wheel description:

It weighs around 1270-1280g/pair:
D50CU-33 T1100 rims 24/24H UD paintless
R280 in-house hubs 24/24H 36T rachets TPI steel bearings center lock straight pull for 100*12/142*12 with Shimano HG driver
Sapim CX-Ray spokes
Sapim self-securing aluminum nipples

From the inquiry to the delivery it took exactly 3 weeks.

I reckon you refer to the weightweenies post?

That was me.
Lead time is still 25 days until shipping so seems like production did not start yet.

Mine shipped last week, so the 16 hole hubs passed testing. Should be here soon. Curious how the front wheel will feel with only 4 spokes on the non braking side

Edit: They arrived yesterday. Review impressions coming soon
