Spcycle New Mold SP-R088 Carbon Road Frame

Hi there,

I have finished my build. This is my second china frame after a Carbonda CFR696 whoch I build up in 2021 (my project againt COVID depression). Since i am us9ng it mostly on paved roads I wanted something more „racy“. Intried some bikes at the local bike stores and found out that the perfect bike for me is a Tarmac SL8. But, with all the features I would like to have they charge a whopping 9k€  Germany.

Today I did a quick technical testride. My observations:

- while building up I had a problem to install the front calipers. The 15mm screws were to long (at least I could not get them into place). I endee up using shorter screws and I hope tha works
- Riding experience is very fine so far. Much better accelerating than my gravel bike, like I espected. Although a sporty geometry the bike feels very comfortable. I do not know if this is due to a lack of stiffness and the frame is just flexing. But, so farbit feels nice. Keeping the speed above 30 kph ismuch easier than on the gravel hike (with the same wheels and tires).

- last point, and this is a real problem: the bolt pf the seatpost clamp kept loosening again and again and the seatpost went down. I did not have a torque wrench with me and therefore I was scared to tighten it too much. At the end of the ride I went all the way down and the seat post was stuck in the seat tube. It took some effort to get it out again. Do you have an idea whatbI could do to tighten the seatpost clampmso that it will never come loose again? Any advice is highly appreciated!

Nice build! What is your weight for the build? And what handlebar is that?

I hope you meant to say creaking and not cracking! I'd first check if the BB is firmly secure. I'd then check chainring bolts and finally I'd check the crankset to make sure it's torqued correctly. Also make sure your pedals are firmly tightened as well.

Nice build! What is your weight for the build? And what handlebar is that?

Thanks. It was something like 7.9 kg with pedals, bottle cages etc. I also put such a foamy thing around the brake line, applied some protective films etc. I guess that adds up. The handlebar is a Lexon Thin Line from Aliexpress. Installation of the brake lines was not to difficult, I expected more problems (this is my first integrated cockpit).

Finally someone is posting build pictures again! Thx! Nice build! I am still waiting for my frame to arrive. Curious to see how my build will go.

Can anyone comment more on the ride quility of this frame? I cant be that stiif at this low weight right?

I guess some more experienced riders should comment on that. I found it again very comfy, even on small cobbles. But, again, I lack the experience with comparable frames.

My mechanical shifting setup is complete. The front derailleur cable was a bit problematic because it doesn't have a guide. I secured the outer cable housing to the seat tube with a cable tie to stabilize it. I'll do a test ride as soon as it's dry outside. I'll add more handlebar tape and weigh the bike.

I view the R088 definitely as an all-arounder. It won't be as stiff as a dedicated aero bike or as lightweight as an Aethos-like climbig build, but it falls somewhere in-between. Though I find it can do well in either configuration.

Congratulations on the build, I think you're the first mechanical R088! 

Despite this frame being offered with an integrated handlebar now, it seems this particular frame attracts the separate (UNO) stem and drop bar crowd!

Finally - my frame was shipped today. Order date was march 26th, with a paint job.

I will build this up with ltwoo rx mechanical 2x12s group set. Anyone else done this?

Wow that took a long time! Min was ordered on 26th of march and arrived today. Due to miscommunication they painted it the ‘wrong’ color. But I dont care

My SPcycle spare washers finally arrive (sent from SPcycle after I told them about the loose wheel). I tried them, but one got stuck in the the concave opening. I decided to wedge it out because I didn't want some random spacer stuck in my frameset.

I decided to just stick with my aftermarket quick release TA with thicker washer that doesn't get stuck.

I’m building it up with Ultegra Di2 - these are go zone 30mm rims for when it’s wet and windy and I’ve a set of carbon speed D60CU-31 T1100 wheels on the way

Will keep you updated on the build and a complete breakdown when I’m finished

Very impressed so far and the paint job looks amazing

What handlebars and saddle did you choose?

Short update from my side. Today I could do the first longer ride (68km), all in all I have done 145km on the bike so far and I would like to summarize my first impressions. The bike is agile and responsive and accellerates very well. It is definitively stiffer than my other bikes (I sense that in my bum area after the ride today…) with the seat post being the most flexible part. This was expected, I guess this is a feature of a bike with such a short seat tube. And my seatpost sticks out particularly far from the seat tube since I I have a small frame given my body height.

By the way, I had redone the complete installation of bottom bracket, cranks and pedals by the book (I love Sram‘s video instructions). I turned out that I had forgotten the washers for the pedals. The creaking is gone now. But, the seat post started moving again. I removed the tape and got myself an (insanely priced) original SL8 seatpost clamp, which is a liitle bit wider in diameter and when tightened really tight. The Spcycle clamp was always a bit loose also when fully tightened.

To sum it up: I like the bike very much an am looking forward to the next rides.

Edit: Garmins‘s original Varia mount for seatposte like this does not work well on this bike. I need definitively another one.

They are Lexon thin line 380 x120 - these saddle is a ryet 3d printed one
