Spcycle New Mold SP-R088 Carbon Road Frame

Starting with the R088 frame ordered on the 21st November. I’ve now ordered everything (except rotors) for my build, and parts have started to arrive. I received pics of my Ryet Ultimate 40/50 wheelset weighing in at 1095g! But no movement on the frame build or delivery. It’s been 9 days, so it’s not late, but I’m impatient and can’t wait to see pics or news of build or sending. How long did it take for other buyers to get news of and receive their frames?

PS. Doing this around the Black Friday period has been good for discounts and vouchers

That doesn’t sound right. BBs don’t spin like jockey wheels, but should still spin freely. Perhaps disassemble, check and rebuild? I went for ceramic Ztto BB for my build, the 1st part to actually arrive! 

Just the support itself, even not screwed in, moves with difficulty. I mean, it doesn’t creak or anything, but it doesn’t rotate very freely. As if there were an unknown amount of grease in there.

I ordered on the November 13th, and the frame was shipped on the 24th. I selected DPD method to EU, and I will be surprised if the frame arrives in the coming week. Perhaps a week after is more realistic.

I paid 443€ including shipping which I think is a really good price.

That is a good price and delivery! I went for integrated bars too which cost a bit more. But worth it to ensure compatibility. I also paid extra for DPD so no customs or duties issues I hope 🤞

I took my R088 on our local Hollywood Sign climb route. It climbed and descended like a champ. Also the 0° setback seat post has made this bike even better with perfect saddle positioning. Seriously, I have zero complaints with this frame. For the price and configuration flexibility is there a better bang-for-buck carbon frameset? You can run electronic or mechanical, setback or no-setback seat post and integrated or non-integrated bars. Plus there's UDH, threaded BSA and standardized 52mm headset bearings.

Maybe there's a reason GCN wanted to trash this frame, because how will big brands compete when affordable frames like this exist?

Is it one or both bearing cups that are stiff? Bearing in mind it's the outer cup that spins around the inner race. I have my Ztto ceramic in hand and they move easily, but don't spin exactly! If I spin it hard it still only makes a single turn, but it does not feel stiff. Take the cups individually, stick your fingers into the middle race to hold it and rotate the outer cup to see how it feels, good luck!

I'm currently using Schwalbe Pro One tires in 25c. In fact I run all my road bikes in 25c. I feel like everyone was in rush to go with bigger tires, but didn't realize 25c tires in tubeless are actually quite comfortable with less weight and rolling resistance. My Pro One tires inflate closer to 28c with 21mm internal width rims. I can hop off curbs and they handle road buzz as if they were wider tubed tires.

M̀easured the cap for the non integrated handlebars, as the one is assembled. ~29.8mm diameter and the diameter where the c-ring sits is ~38.2mm measured with a analogue caliper.

As this frame has 52mm bearings, it should be the same as on my G069 and therefore the diameter is 56mm

I’m happy enough that I’ll receive a frame that won’t fall apart, I’m just a little nervous that I’m going to have issues with certain bits when I receive it, mainly with the headset bearings and fork spacing (I’ve seen some comments about this), the brake calliper mounts ideally need facing and maybe issues with routing hydraulic cabling?

Are those the only things I need to know about? I don’t want to order a frame that I then have to scour this huge thread to find workarounds for things that shouldn’t happen. I don’t have the necessary tools for facing brake calliper mounts, so ideally it should just be good out of the box, right?

Just to give you some peace of mind regarding the build quality: I honestly didn't run into any of those brake issues you mentioned. I consider myself a bit of a mechanical "noob," yet I managed to align the calipers perfectly on the first try without needing to face the mounts or use special tools. It was good to go out of the box.

As for reliability, I’ve logged nearly 5,000km on this frame so far and taken it absolutely everywhere. It has survived various Gran Fondos and I even took it up the Colle delle Finestre—if you look up that route, you’ll see it’s a brutal climb with heavy unpaved/gravel sections at the top. The frame handled it without a problem.

I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it again. The only slight pity is the total absence of logos/branding, but performance-wise, it’s been solid.

Honestly, I'm very happy to not have any logos at all on my bike, I don't want any.

I'll sit on it over the weekend and purchase on Monday, as well as get the integrated handlebar as well. I emailed them this week and they confirmed that it is compatible with the R088 frame.

I just can't decide on colour! I want it matt, and I'm torn between

• Metallic Orange (16) - Currently my top option
• Metallic Yellow (15)
• Metallic Blue (14)
• White

Bearings, expander plug and top cap comes with frame. I'm assuming you ordered only frame from spcycle?

Yeah just the frame, so I'm unsure about what to get next to actually build up the bike with. I can buy the integrated handlebar I linked in my previous post as it is compatible, but wondered what others I could go with. What size is the steerer tube?

I've seen this linked in a previous post on an earlier page, seems okay? KOCEVLO X01 Road Bike Full Carbon Fiber Stem Integrated Bicycle Handlebar For 28.6mm With Spacers Cycling Parts Accessories. It only allows free shipping, so I guess when it hits UK customs I'm liable to pay import duty?

Another question, in guessing it’s not got the rubber bungs included for the internal cable routing, for when the cable comes out of the frame?

Lastly, as I've just put the order in on AliExpress, would they contact me next week about my preferred colour?
