Winspace C5 AERO reviews? - not regular C5
« on: February 07, 2025, 01:38:35 PM »
Does anyone have experience with the C5 Aero? I couldn't really find any reviews online. I'm helping a friend build a new bike and we're trying to decide between the C5 and C5 Aero. They will be upgrading from a 2014 CAAD10 and are looking for a good bike that will last a long time. They love racing but in reality, the vast majority of the bike's miles will be done on outdoor training rides and joy rides. We live in an area that is pretty hilly, but there's some decent flat riding options too. Winspace says the aero version is actually lighter than the regular version because they used higher end carbon. Personally I don't have experience riding purely aero bikes... but I bet riding the aero version would be really fun. I'm just not sure if it's the bike for a go-to joy ride by a smaller, 58-60kg rider.

i personally will go for the normal c5 just because it is cheaper and more compliant but the claimed weigh savings of the c5 aero(if true) might sway me towards it.

We did end up going for the regular C5. It was looking like we might go for the Aero just because the T47 BB would be more friendly to the 30mm spindle on their previous bike's crank. After doing some research, I realized BB30 cranks are not really compatible with T47 because they have a shorter spindle. It would have been cheaper to get the Aero if we could reuse the old crankset. Once we realized it wasn't compatible, the regular C5 choice was more obvious.

I'm still a little sad I can't find reviews for the C5 Aero though. It seems like it could be a fun bike, I'm surprised it's not more popular. So many aero bikes have headtubes that are way too tiny but the C5 Aero looks quite reasonable... I wanted an excuse to build an aero bike because I've never really ridden one before and my friend is similarly sized to me. Just wanted the fun of testing it without having to commit  ;D

Isn’t it brand new? Not sure it has been out long enough for anyone to have one to even review yet. I could be wrong.

I think you are right! I just saw it on their website and assumed it had been there for a while. After poking around, I do see articles announcing it from only a few weeks ago. That makes a lot more sense. I wasn't looking at any of the dates when I first looked into it. Hopefully someone does a review soon!
