[Help Needed] Giant SRL1 Disc 42 Rim - Original One?
« on: February 10, 2025, 10:44:52 PM »
I come up with these rims from a locale shop. Perhaps, someone in this forum has experience on this matter. The shop said that these rims are the overstock/left over stock from the factory (Giant factory in Taiwan)!
I had a chance to see the rims myself. The serial number inside and between the rim walls scratched/removed. The rims appeared to be new/has not installed but there are scratches outside ...
I'm very interested in the rim because I have a Giant SLR1 42 rear wheel which was carbon repaired and caused rotating imbalance. I hope I can rebuilt the wheel with a new rim.

My questions are
- If these are the original ones from Giant?
- Any issue with these rims. I saw that they have all the stickers, QR codes. If there do not pass the QC, they should not have all information on ...

Thank you

They don't seem new but I have never seen a fake Giant product (except clothes). So, I suppose yes.

No way to know for sure, I guess. My only problem with these would be that you really don’t know why these have not been used by the factory.
If you can check them thoroughly and the price is good, then sure. Go for it. Lay them on a flat surface and see if they’re perfectly flat and not warped in any way. If you have a spoke and nipple at hand, check if the spoke holes have been evenly drilled and are oriented/angled correctly in alternating directions. Weigh them both to see if there’s any weird difference in weight between the two.

Apart from that, you could obviously also just get any similar looking carbon rim with the same ERD from a reliable seller. There’s many options discussed here on the forum. AFAIK these Giant rims are pretty dated in their design anyway.

It's very uncommon that a great company like Giant sell used (they're not brand new...come on...) spare rim

I suppose the rims comes from a broken hub and they're trying to sell at least the rims.
They look genuine.

Let me tell you that 19mm internal are a bit outdated...
