Sram Rival eTap AXS - Crankset & Powermeter upgrade
« on: February 11, 2025, 12:59:56 PM »
Hello All,

this is my first Post here so please be kind  ;D

At the moment i am trying to find the best solution to upgrade my Crankset & Powermeter, shave off a few grams and especially find a solution with shorter crank arms (which seems impossible with original SRAM parts atm).

As i am so confused by all the stuff 110bcd 5-bolt, 110bcd 4-bolt, q-factor, chainline etc. etc. i thought i ask here for some advice and maybe someone who did the same.

my Current setup:
- SRAM Rival etap AXS 2x Powermeter crankset
- 48/35
- PF 86.5 Bottom Bracket
- 172,5 cranks

what i want to achieve:
- 165 or 167,5 cranks
- powermeter (reliable)
- save some weight
- better looks (e.g. i like the look of Passquest aero chainrings)
- same shifting performance

What i dont like: "integrated" powermeter by sram that you cant change/seperate from the chainring.

so i was looking at the Lexon Crank + xcadey crankset, the Sprill (Passquest) + xcadey combo, elilee etc.

But i am not sure whether these can be made to work with my setup properly and it seems to be more suited for shimano (e.g. because of the chainrings being sold with it 50/34 etc.)

Also the magene spider based powermeter (P505 S1078) would be an option, but for this i cant find some 8-bolt crankarms in the desired length...

Any Advice for this?

Various options.

SRAM Force or Red cranks + Magene P505 S1078 and reuse existing rings. Probably hard to find 165mm with demand very high at the moment.

Lexon crank + XCadey or Sigeyi Easton interface PM for 4-bolt 110 and use the Pass Quest AXS rings (they're made to be used with SRAM drivetrains but 4x110BCD).

If you get the Lexon DUB crank you can use the same bottom bracket. You might need to get some spacers to take up any preload play.

Crankset from Driveline and SRAM AXS Powermeter (The one with direct mount and for 107 BCD Chainrings).
I got 2 sets of that for 2 years and working flawlessly. Also, the spindle is 24mm, way better than 29mm DUB from SRAM.

Riro / racework carbon crank:
some people will warn you of the aluminum axle, but the 24mm diameter will leave more bearing size for the pressfit bottom bracket
170mm crank length, not good enough for Pogi wannabes
Magene P505-S1103 powermeter in 3-bolt
Pass Quest chainrings, available in SRAM gearing 48/35 and for flattop chains

Would you rather change your BB bearings more often or have spindle break mid-ride?

I think one of the cheapest option would be to use the magene pes p505 which is available for around 280 bucks including the cranks.

If i change my BB to a 24mm one this should work with the right chainrings for sram axs or?

Difficult choice to make...

Yes, you may consider adding Pass Quest AXS chainrings.
Did not mention the Magene PES P505 Base Power Meter in the first instance since there was the impression you are looking for carbon cranks.
I can recommend the Magene PES P505 Base Power Meter, quite sure a few others around here can, as well

I just ordered the magene with pass quest chainrings + bb removal & installation tool for around 300 € whereas carbon cranks (e.g. lexon) + sigeyi/xcadey + chainrings would have resulted in 600+ € and i wasnt sure about the reputation of these PM compared to Magene... And hopefully i will learn something for my skills when i change my first bottom bracket

Thanks all for your answers
