Jokes aside.. the foam in the box is closed cell, right? This anti ratle hack/bodge will not soak water in the frame?

FWIW - I had a discussion with Gavin and found out the BB and Headtube are ~15% and 11% stiffer if the bike is built without the storage compartment.  We have some significant descents here in UT, often with strong crosswinds and some uneven pavement from the cold winters. Because I've had some unpleasant experiences with a few bikes lacking stability at speed, I changed my order to the no compartment option.

LC need to inform this things to the end user to know before finalizing the order if with or without storage compartment is an option. IMO

I don't find this statement from Galvin very plausible and would recommend asking Jim, he's the expert 😬

Hello, I had the same issue by torquing it to spec mentioned on the seat post clamp screw (6-8Nm). I wrote to Jim and he directed me to the build guide sheet that comes with the frame and told me the correct spec is 8-10Nm. I torqued it to 10Nm and I no longer have any play!

i would be shitting my pants doing it upto 10Nm, i have a gravel frame that has a hairline fracture on the back of the seatpost from being overtightened

Of course cutting a big hole in the down tube will effect stiffness. Less material, less stiff. If they’ve done FEA finite element analysis I’m sure they have a good understanding of the stiffness losses involved.
( it would also depend what size frame they tested )

One things for sure. A big hole isn’t going to make it more stiff unless that add a lot more material, which will equal more weight.

It’s like having a car and making a convertible model. The convertible will be less stiff unless they add more strengthening/ weight.


ÌMHO it’s absolutely nothing to worry about. And it absolutely won’t affect real world handling. Geometry, and centre of mass will have a far greater influence on that.

Tbh I was worried about it too, but I had some lateral play even at 9Nm while performing hard efforts while seated and that's when I wrote to Jim. Since this information comes from LC directly, I am hoping the seatpost is tested for this torque setting to be deemed safe!

I didn’t put it on a scale but I think it’s not that heavy. Maybe around 10g because it was a more rugged type of Foam (compared to the r2). I went with this because of the storage door.
I got the same length left in the basement. Going to weight it.

hello, I have a question regarding seatpost. Is it replacable with some seatposts which are available on regular eshops [like for specialized sl8] or it is specific shape which is used only by LC?
