Wondering what inner width wheelsets people are pairing with this frame? I can see LC do their own wheelsets but not sure if they are popular or well regarded. I feel like 25mm inner is common now?

I have just ordered a set of the XMCS 58mm wheels that Peter had aero tested at Silverstone, they have a 26mm inner width. Really looking forward to getting them onto the LCR018-D as it should be quite the combination. Will post photos and thoughts once they arrive and I get some decent mileage onto them.

really depends on the width of tires you want to run. if you’re ok with 28-32mm wide tires then 23mm inner width is probably ok. if you want to run 32-35+ then 25+mm internal is better for the tire and the external rim to match up better aero wise.

i got LC’s own wheels, 23mm wide internal, to run 30-32mm width tires. at the discounted $469 price when bought with the frame, for the specs (1350gm, sapim spokes, 50mm depth) it seemed like a decent deal.  definitely would go wider if i was thinking aero gravel setup with 35+ tires

have fun! so many wheel manufacturers now. i was planning to get some elite or farsports wheels when i was initially planning the build for my bike, budgeting $800-1000 for wheels. but i have to say the LC wheelset is getting the job done at half the price. can’t imagine spending $1500-2000 on a western brand

There is no definitive recipe, it depends what tyre size you want to use - hooked - hookless - your weight - the road conditions - blah blah blah.

Everyone with have a different opinion, and everyone is right or wrong depending your point of view.

I use 32mm inner 40mm outer hooked

This is the issue I find is that I don't have a great deal of funds to splash on components to try and no one can recommend a good "average" so I end up never buying anything. It's a nightmare :P Choice paralysis is biting me hard
I'd probably go 32mm, hooked, I'm 92kg (max), roads are full of potholes here in my country but I'd rarely go on gravel.

There is no good average.
If you’re 92kg and the roads are crap why limit yourself to a 32mm tyre? You’ll just need to use higher pressures so the ride will be less plush.

A 25mm int hooked would be my absolute minimum for 32-35mm tyres

if you're buying an 18D, at this weight, with these roads, 1000% go straight to the max tyre clearance. The GP5000 in 35C from Pogi at Roubaix this year measured 39 or 40mm, from memory, and this frame clears 38C, so 40mm measured wont be an issue. I'd solve for that right away, solving for 32mm makes absolutely no sense. I'm over 80kg, ride on smooth asphalt, my rear measures 34mm (32C), and i will never, ever go smaller again, but my next rig will need to clear that 35C.

As  I said above, I use a 32internal but wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to someone with no experience . Read up on wheels - ETRTO etc and make your own choices.

As a beginner I’d probably recommend something towards the 27-29 mm range with hooks to be on the safe side.

Ok, so I need some help with a 1x13 setup on my LCR018 frame...  :-\

Context: I was using a SRAM 1x12 cassette without any problems with a Wheeltop GeX groupset. A short while ago, I decided to upgrade to 1x13, so, taking advantage of the GeX ability to adapt to different cassettes, I got a SRAM Rival XPLR 10-46 13 speed cassette and compatible flattop chain. Changed the cassette on the wheelset, adjusted derailleur limiting screws, went to the Wheeltop app, set the derailleur to 13 speeds (instead of the 12 it was on) and started adjusting/reindexing the gears. From the 46 tooth cog to the 11 tooth I have 12 speeds running smoothly, perfetly indexed, but I couldn't get it to shift to the lowest 10 tooth cog. Initialy I though it was just bad adjustment of the lower limiting screw on the derailleur, but after some fidling, I still wouldn't shift the lower, or, it would, but only for a fraction of a second, going up again to the 11 tooth cog. That was when I started to notice that the UDH piece had some scruff marks on it's inner side, facing the cassette. It was then clear to me that the chain was rubbing against the inner face of the UDH, in 2 spots, relative to the axle, on the upper and bottom parts. At first I thought this must be due to some problem with the rear hub/freehub body, but I already tried other 2 rear wheels from different wheelsets (3 in total) and the problem remains. It seemed to me there was simply no space/enough gap between the included UDH and the limit of the cassette for the chain to clear and run on the 10 tooth cog. Has I have an extra regular UDH laying around (not this ultra-light version that LC ships with the frame), I took the original out and tried that one, and it only got worse, as with the normal UDH it seems I have even less gap between the UDH inner face and the cassette, like 1mm less!  ???

So, I seems to me it's not a rear hub/freehub problem, nor a UDH problem, so what, is it the frame?!? :-\

I attached some pictures below to show the problem I'm describing.

I guess some of you here are running 1x13 speed cassettes on this frame, so this should be possible for me too!

Please share your thoughts and ideias, I'd appreciate some help!

I wonder if your issue is the groupset and not the frame/hanger? From the Wheeltop FAQ. Got lucky with 12 speed but not so much with 13?

Non-Direct Mount CompatibilityThe WHEELTOP rear derailleur is only compatible with non-direct-mount derailleur hangers. Using a direct-mount hanger could lead to improper alignment and affect performance.

UDH CompatibilityThe WHEELTOP rear derailleur is partially compatible with Universal Derailleur Hangers (UDH). However, its performance may vary depending on the specific bike frame design. Certain frames might require adjustments or may present limitations for optimal performance.

This is nothing to do with the frame and very much a groupset problem. When you get to 13 speed, tolerances are extremely fine and small differences matter.

You should probably start a thread rather than post here. You need advice from users of this system.

It could be chain length / B screw adjustment - that’s there I’d look as it sound similar to when SRAM XPLR users use a chain that’s too short.

So this is a known problem with Wheeltop/UDH/13x? My bad, I just assumed that if it clears 12x, it should work in 13x, FML...  :(

I am sure there are people doing 13 speed UDH with wheeltop and making it work. I just know the UDH compatibility is a risk with Wheeltop and why I did not choose the groupset for my build. There could be a way, like POTOOOOOOOO said, possibly how the groupset is setup. Worth playing around but at the end of the day, it might just be the groupset and nothing more.
