Yoeleo Altera G21

I noticed Yoeleo updated their G21 gravel frame and called it now Altera G21.

Though the pricing is on the higher side (as from 1,420USD), it has a lot of features I notice people on this forum are looking for.

Specs:

• 53mm tyre clearance
• UDH compatible
• T47 Bottom bracket
• top tube and down tube storage cages
• options to have a fork with or w/o mounts

I'm curious to hear people's experience of the old G21 or in the near future of this new version.
Knowing Yoeleo, I assume they will also send out some frames to some influencers soon. @Patliean1: Do they still have your address?

From my perspective you get the same with the GR201 frameset but for less like 500? USD.

Strange combination of very low stack and slack head tube angle. And HT/ST angle all over the place when changing between sizes.
Why does nobody make 74/71.5 with a little more stack, large tire clearance, udh and BSA or T47 bottom bracket?

I got one of these currently in transit. The frame should arrive mid next week.

Having owned the previous G21 gravel frame from Yoeleo, I can say it is freaking rock solid. I found the overall ride to be a tad more refined than my GR201. But perhaps it's just placebo. The geometry worked great for me too.

The Velobuild gravel bike costs around $500—roughly a third of the price of comparable frames that likely use the same T800 carbon and offer similar build quality. Sure, you might get a few extra features with higher-end options, like downtube protection, storage mounts, or a flashier paint job. But the same argument applies to most Western brands.

In the end, it all comes down to market positioning. A higher price point creates a perception of a more premium product, and that’s exactly what some customers are looking for.  They  aren’t willing to pay Western brand prices but still want something more distinctive than the cheapest generic frames from Asia.

This all said , my intention of this topic is to understand how well the frame rides and how well the build quality is rather than discuss the pricing.

A lot educated guesses around I won’t comment.
It’s becoming a bit dogmatic kind of forum where some define what is value and what not…

So back to topic
I got the Altera frameset here with seatpost/handlebar for around 1400,-
Packaging is v.good…quite the new standard.
Instructions are really thorough and useful, never saw kind of such details with western brands…no chinglish!
So is the box with all these small parts.
T47 interface is faced and no paint overlap
Painting is amazing…
So far so good…
Size 58 with internal boxes and rear axle and all those screws around 1350g

Communication with Yoeleo was Fast and responsive.

Looking forward to buil it up

Using influencers is cheaper and more cost effective than traditional marketing outlets. Especially for smaller brands.

I'm grateful to have partnered with almost every single beloved and budget-minded brand in this forum at some point. From VeloBuild to TanTan, Light Carbon, Carbon Speed. Heck even Magene. Clearly these brands see value in this arrangement.

We denounce influencers and YouTubers when they market products we personally don't find value in. Makes sense. No harm no foul. When someone like myself has referred now about 30-40 customers to Carbon Speed for wheels purchases, no one takes issue with me being transparent about receiving "free" wheels from Peter in exchange. Because we value his products. But then who exactly are eating the costs of those so-called free wheels?

I'm going to keep repeating these talking points:

1. We each our entitled to our own subjective opinions. How we choose to spend our money does not make us more or less virtuous than the next person.

2. Brand cache is a real thing. Completely irrespective of value. This past weekend one of the more highly regarded racers on my club asked for my advice on buying a 2nd set of wheels for race day. He doesn't have time to waste on internet forums for hours each day like myself. So you can imagine me trying to recommend Carbon Speed fell on deaf ears. In the end he's going to purchase a set of wheels from, ironically, Yoeleo. He said because Yoeleo has been proven here in Chicago among other race clubs. And he loves the price point. Who am I tell him how to spend his money?

The brands prey on people who mistakenly believe that these influencers are providing an unbiased review. Sure you can buy ads on Facebook to tell the world your $7k titanium frame has magical properties, but for less money you can get an influencers to say it for you

It's similar to Carbon Speed / Velobuild / TanTan. Three value leading brands in this space. I'm sure these brands are probably gaining satisfactory marketshare organically simply from free customer word of mouth. Yet here I am preying on people with my influencing.

Does someone like Peter from Carbon Speed need my influencing and allegedly bias review to sell his products? Highly unlikely. But is a net return of even 15 new customers in exchange for a set of wheels a shrewd marketing risk? You can ask him yourself.

We have to call it both ways. If we discredit brands using influencers to sell $7,000 titanium frames then we need to keep the same energy for brands using the same tactics for $800 frames/wheels. Because I get just as many accusations of being an communist paid shill for promoting $800 Chinese frames as I do featuring western brands on my channel. Both extreme sides of the price spectrum have insufferable loyalists. That's life in general.

I'll end my take on this unfortunate topic divergence by saying much of my success has always been from the support of this forum. Would be great to see more folks in here create helpful media content to aid in people's purchasing decisions. Yoeleo has come a long way in the past 3 years. Quality and customer service has improved. I've called them out on my channel multiple times. Who knew influencing could be used responsibly?

It’s all ok, velobuild, Tantan or whatsoever…but that was not the question here.
I did also have a look at all those other brands, but I did not find what fit me…design, geometry, gimmicks…etc

Some thoughts on building it up:

As said, packaging is top, kind of new standard!
Extra box with items, screws, spacers…etc
Installation guide in “real” English, very detailed!

Frame/ painting top….t47 interface v.well faced.
Flat top mounts…could have been slightly better…rear without adapter should be fine, with it a bit of sanding. Front ditto.

Boxes on top- and downtube look like being cut out afterwards with “template”. Not sure tough just guessing, but seems reinforced…quite simple open/close mech.
As it’s not a fully compartment option you have to use the bags which sit under and are screwed to the cover.
I find them a bit small…but have no comparison.

I did change the steerer bearings with a stainless steel option, size is 52x40 45/45 … one 7mm, other 8mm
Installation wants you to put 8mm at bottom, but I reversed it, as I found the gap more pleasant the other way round.
And they still use this steerer tube metal spacer where the bottom bearing sits at the fork .

Elsewhere no issues with building it up with my wheeltop EDS TX 2x group.
And I opted for the road bar/stem combo in 400/110.

I can fully agree to your experience. The packaging of my R11 was a new standard. The additional parts came in an extra box and their quality was pretty high. Everything is just a tad nicer,  cleaner.
It doesn't mean others are bad. But Yoeleo really puts a cherry on top.
