Chosing colors (or colours) for your new build

Whats everyones experience with picking a color? Is it a guessing game? Have you a source you use to get a good look at a color? Are you asking the supplier for video/images of the intended color?

My first build was with TanTan and they were pretty patient and helpful with sending me pics/vid of the color book they are using so I could try and find the right tone. But it was a long and tedious process for both parties I think and I hate coming back and asking for another pic/vid to make a choice from.
As anyone that has worked in an industry losely relying on colors (Photographer, interier decorator, panel beater etc) colors online on a computer screen rarely match the color in real life. Hence I prefer to see video of the color as the next best option to actually having it in front of my eyes. Even just the pages of the color book being slowly flicked over can give a better impression of the tone of a color.

I think most suppliers are using the YS color book or scheme. Does anyone here by any chance happen to have a copy of the Yongxiang Standard YS Color Book? I know its unlikley but if you don't ask you don't know.
If I had a copy I'd be willing to film it, slowly turing the pages and posting it on FB so everyone could get a feel for the colors. But any copy I have come across is way to expensive for what use I would get out of it.

For my build i went with TanTan as well. After i learned that they use Pantone C colours, i googled print services nearby and asked them if the have a pantone c formula guide.
So i went outside to see what colour matches my idea the most.
For some good references to begin with i can recommend Aikka Paint DoctorTeoh on YouTube. There you can find a lot of pantone C tones in real light scenarios.

As Henry ford stated:  Any customer can have a bicycle frame painted any color that he wants so long as it is matte black.

My matte black frames always look good covered with a patina of grit, grime, dirt, dust and mud.  Amazing what a unique look my bicycles have that is forever changing and an infinite variation of brownish colors.
