Mud guard/Fender recommendations

Hi all,

I'm building a VeloBuild Aero Gravel as we speak. I'm missing a good set of mud guards for it. Preferably some that goes almost all the way down.

If anyone have "cheap" recommendations, then perfect. If they aren't cheap, I would still like to know what you're using.

On my road bike, I used to run SKS race blades (sounds like it might be the kind of thing you are after), but they limited my tyre size too much (might not be a problem for you if you have lots of clearance).  So now just use a generic straight rear mud guard which attaches to the seat post.  This is enough to keep water from splashing my behind with cycling in rain.

On my trifox gravel bike which I got recently, I am not using any mud guards though as I prefer the look without them. 😀  Plus if you are going somewhere muddy, you are going to get mud on you whether you have them or not.

Thank you! The tire clearence is 50 mm, but I only have 35 mm tires on at the moment. It’s not really meant as a gravel bike - but more like a winter/bad weather bike. With the option to go gravel if I one day feel like it.

Sorry if it’s a stupid question, but I have never had mud guards on. So it’s about the clearance and not tire size?

For full length mudguards, I really like the SKS Edge AL. They come in a 46 version (40mm tire clearance) and a 56 version (50mm tire clearance).

For clip ons, the SKS Speedrocker (42mm) or Speedrocker XL (52mm) are great.

+1 for the SKS Speedrocker on the gravelbike. The bike will still be dirty, but you will stay relatively clean and dry.

If it's a "winter/bad weather bike" just get full length mudguards. Your drivetrain and feet will thank you.
SKS bluemels are good and cheap to get you started. Metal mudguards are nicer and look nicer but more expensive.

Kinesis Fend off are aluminium. really solid, look slick in matt black and no rattling at all, but they're quite heavy ~700g

I wish a Chinese company could make a cheaper and matt version of the VeloDuo carbon mudguards that are more like ~350g but I haven't seen anything like that yet

Well..i think Design and optics should not be argued about..
These metal mudguards .. for me they look like a "Hollandrad" from my childhood.
However.. they are indeed very functional.
And as I prefer a quick removal ... SKS speedrocker is my solution . Also I prefer the much less massive style of the plastic mudguard 
And they also are very effective. Otherwise I wouldn't use them, I commute in every weather conditions.

It seems like SKS is the way to go I think I go for the speedrocker - seems stable and easy to mount and demount again.
