SPCycle G028 new gravel frame with 57mm tires clearance

Anyone else having problems with the supplied headset?

Now I installed a 0.5mm shim to see if it helps - no luck.

Tightening the headset top cap does not preload the bearings enough, even with the shim installed steering is really smooth not stiffenig as it should.

During riding high speed if the front wheel hits an obsticle it makes one loud click.

During sprints or applying brakes no strange sound it only happens on major impacts.

I have no idea if its a faulty headset, frame or fork problem and would appreciate any input.

Contacted SP Cycle 5 days ago via email, no answer...

Did you install the headset with the provided C-Ring and all the parts that came with the frame or did you use a third-party cockpit with provided parts?

I used the supplied part t was clicking real bad. I ordered a 0.5mm shim and installed it on top of the C-Ring. It's better but still clicking occasionally as I described.

I am confindent that the supplied headset is very low quality as there are no markins on the bearings. I have no idea if the bearings are supposed to be 45/45 or 45/36 degrees as SP-Cycle does not provide details.

I am willing to change the supplied headset to 3rd party product while I don't want to damage the frame because of this issue.
Will contact the manufacturer again but I have a feeling that they couldn't care less.

Hi. I had the exact same problem. The expander was at fault, as it wasn't able to compensate for the play in the headset. I bought a DEDA 70mm expander and applied some carbon paste to it. The problem disappeared.

I guess my expander is fine as its not moving up inside the fork.

Not a perfect fit for the original headset I had to modify it with an angle grinder.

I reached out to spcycle to get the official torque specifications for the frame/components, so I'm sharing them here in case it helps anyone with their build or maintenance:

Seatpost Clamp: 6 N·m
Compression Plug (Expander): 12 – 15 N·m
T47 Bottom Bracket: 25 – 40 N·m

I asked Spcycle if such a crankset would fit in the frame, but they replied that the frame was designed around a Shimano GRX crankset. There are so many BB standards these days.  I can't keep track of them and always have to start from scratch every time I purchase a frame with a different BB size and width.    Our G028s are designed for T47 internal bottom brackets, and the Frame BB shell width is 85.5mm.   This appears to make it compatible with most cranks designed for frames with a 85.5 mm to 86.5 mm shell width that matches the standard width for BB86 / PF41 frames

For your Scumano 105 cranks they should fit into a T47 Internal BB for a 24mm axle.   This being written,  It appears that the GRX cranksets have a +2.5mm outboard spacing compared to your 105 road cranks.   This is to accommodate the wider chainlines found on Gravel and MTB bikes.   Therefore, you will have to test to see if your 105 cranks provide the correct chainline

I already have this crank and t47 85.5 bottom bracket setup, tested on a CWIND GT30 gravel bike, probably the SPCYCLE G058 equivalent. I'm more concerned about whether the crank with these chainrings will fit in this frame and whether Continental Dubintal 29x2.2 tires will fit. The GRX crank doesn't fit me due to the size of the chainrings.

New bike day for me! Quite happy with this frame swapped al my parts over from my Velobuild AeroGravel. When I tried it out today it felt very familiar and I was happy with the feeling of the bike. It didn’t really feel slower or more sluggish than my VB. I was quite pleased with the speed possible on the 45mm Caracal race tires.
When I build op my dedicated roadbike hopefully next week (I know, I know, I have a problem) I will order some bigger tires like thunder burts or maybe 2.4 Pirelli xc tires they also seem to be quick on Bicycle Rolling Resistance. Excited to see how capable and versatile this bike will be.

Hi everyone, after gathering all the parts, my Spcycle G028 build is finally assembled! I wanted to build a fast but capable gravel/monster cross bike, and I am absolutely thrilled with how aggressive it looks.
The only detail left is the chainring. I need to change it to a 0mm offset one because right now I am running 3mm of spacers on the crank spindle to make it fit, and I want to remove them. Other than that, she is ready to roll!

nice build! would a 2.35 fit in the rear? I only tried with 2.1 Thunderburts (WAM 55mm on 27mm internal rims) and there is still a good amount of clearance.
