Helmets

I know, why buy a helmet from China?  But wait, much of Chinese product is as good, in some cases better than traditional brands.  So are there any helmet brands worth noting.

PMT, namely the PMT Kora 3 has caught my attention, not available everywhere but looks interesting if not a tad heavier than market leaders. Also, sometimes the Chinese products come in more interesting/brighter colours.

I'd like to discuss brands worth considering, and any experience with the PMT brand.

Strange I raise this topic because as a very experienced rider I always tell people 'do not buy a helmet you haven't tried on, helmets are about personal fit and comfort is king'..... however, online shopping has meant that very few LBS stock many models, so it's hard to find anywhere to try on many models.

I've run and crashed a westbiking helmet. doctors agreed it did its job well and i'd be dead for sure without it. it only made me more retarded
i'll place an order for a sunrimoon S42 soon to replace it. there is a thread about it, they look more interesting and are easier to find than PMT imo

I've bought a couple over the years. PMT Miduo 2 was fine, Sunrimoon Alien fit was odd for me and their Phantom's QC was horrible. Currently using a WWW that I'm surprisingly happy with, but I believe they only sell on Taobao.

Currently using a WWW ......

Do you have link or photo, searching for WWW may not work, even on Taobao - I'm happy going direct to Taobao, that's where I was looking at PMTs

From where I am, all helmets must have a safety standard certification. If you get into an accident or worse, lose your life that you are opening the door for the insurance company to deny your claim for damages or life insurance.

I’ve been on the fence about buying a Chinese helmet for a while now. I just stumbled upon the Sunrimoon TT-81 https://it.aliexpress.com/item/1005010248560868.html. It looks absolutely amazing.

I always hesitate because of safety standards and certifications but reading your experience I would say they work perfectly.

don't buy sunrimoon from aliexpress. they are almost 40% cheaper if you buy from their website, even if theres a big ali sale like now

I've noticed that the PMT Kora 3.0 is claimed to have a Virginia Tech helmet safety rating of 5 stars, but on the Virginia Tech site they list it as 3 stars..... doesn't provide too much confidence.

I wouldn't worry too much about the safety standards, the real brands (the ones mentioned here) should all be tested against the same ones. The Chinese safety standard and the European one are basically the same.

That struck me as odd as well, but I think it's because Virginia Tech changed their star system last year, so it may have been 5 star when it released but then got downgraded to 3 in the update.

Yes, or you can buy from Taobao (if your country allows direct shipping from Taobao).

The A20 Helmet by P2R in China is really nice. Single digit placement on Virginia Tech Ranking and 60€ without the visor.

I have a Moon MIP Helmet and it is very nice, the details on the liners, corners and straps is better than my previous Van Ryzen, and better than some other bransd I saw at a satans in the Flander race a few months ago.
