Pass Quest chainring question

Hi,

I bought a Pass Quest chainring, which I've had a good experience with, and I'm about to install it on my Shimano 8200 crankset.

The installation instructions mention a small washer that needs to be installed. However, when I use the washer, the chainring doesn't sit flush and has approximately 0.1 mm of play or a raised area.

This makes me wonder whether the Shimano 8200 crankset differs from the 8100 in terms of chainring compatibility or mounting requirements.

Here is the chainring I purchased, along with the installation instructions: https://pq-bike.com/collections/shimano/products/pass-quest-shimano-slx-m7100-xt-m8100-xtr-m9100-6100-round-narrow-wide-chainring?shop_sign_in=true

I have also attached a photo showing the chainring installed with the washer.

Could you please confirm whether this chainring is compatible with the Shimano 8200 crankset and whether the washer is required for this model? AFAIK the new Shimano crankset is 55mm chainline as opposed to 8100 which was 52mm and 55mm depending on the spacers.

Thanks!

No, You do not need washer with 0mm chainring on M8200 crank to get 55mm chainline.

Your Pass Quest chainring has a 0 mm offset, just like the M8200 chainring, which gives M8200 crank 55 mm chainline.

The M8100 crank has a 52 mm chainline because its chainring has 3 mm offset. To achieve a 52 mm chainline with a 0 mm offset chainring on the M8100 crank, you need to install a 3 mm spacer on the crank arm side.

I hope that makes sense.
