29plus - Trek Stache
« on: December 22, 2015, 11:13:46 AM »
This isn't a Chiner Carbon post but just thought I would post this for some discussion.  I'm really liking the Trek Stache 29plus and Dirtrag Magazine ranked the Trek Stache 29plus as one of their favorite bikes of 2015.  http://dirtragmag.com/editors-choice-2015-our-favorite-bikes/

I know there is a similar Chinese Carbon frame with a high chainstay on the market, maybe someone else can post that link.  Here is a picture of the Stache, in my opinion, a great looking hardtail.

There's this one, that seems to be both 27.5+ and 29+:

The Ican geo chart is giving me a headache. I saw the WW one at Interbike and it looked pretty nice.

You know, a few years ago I was convinced the MTB market was going to settle on one main wheel size that became mostly standard. Guess not though. I wonder if it will just continue fragmenting into different sizes or what? 26, 29er, 27.5, Fat bike, 29+... Is this just going to keep going or is one going to prove to be the king of the mountain? That said, 29+ seems like it might be a good mix of all of them and I could definitely building one up instead of a fat bike or 29er. I had written fat bikes off almost entirely until reading rvc's NASA themed build thread found in the Fat Bike section of Chinertown.

I'm definitely rambling at this point. Sorry, just some random thoughts  ;D

Somebody else posted this on here or MTBR (I can't remember) and it is a pretty cool podcast. Some is just rambling but around the 50 minute mark they give a good pro vs con of plus size wheels.

Haha I was thinking the same thing. I did notice that the width clearance on the stays seems to be 96mm. I have the Workswell one ordered (still hasn't shipped) and I am hoping it is a little more. The fork clearance of the WW one is 106mm so hopefully the frame stays will match.

I do the same thing. I keep thinking I want one until I actually ride one. Then it hit's me "oh ya, I remember now why I don't have one". They just aren't that fun for me. I do really like my 29er HT as a 27+ bike so hopefully I am happy with the new frame.

Thanks for posting that PodCast.  They even talked specifically about how much they liked the Stache.
