Wow, very cool wheelset. 1330g is just crazy.
1) Are they hookless? Can't tell from the pics.
2) Can they be ordered without spoke holes?
Thanks
Looks nice with the bike. Who made the bike for you?
radrick_91: what inner width are the zipp wheels you are comparing with? Thinking about tyre stretch, and about how much wider tyres will be compared to my 24mm inner width wheels.
Depends on configuration. But they were 670USD with CX-RAY spokes, and i was quoted 770USD with titanium spokes. Choosed CX-ray to have something widely available rather than something harder to find.To be clear, I told you that you guys are the earliest guys who order these wheels, so there were discount for those orders.
Shipping depends on country but in my case $115.
Sorry Peter, i cannot remember that you told me that, but i'm usually quite distracted, so that is probably just on me.That is OK. Hope you will get your new wheels soon and love them as always. Looking forward to you guys' reviews.
Anyway, cannot wait for the wheels and Sorry for writing wrong pricing here. Good value anyways!
Would be great to see some pictures with tires mounted up to see how the shapes look.
I'm not sure how to read this:
"Measured Tire Widths (@32 psi, compared to Zipp 303s)
• Front: 39.6 mm → 43.6 mm
• Rear: 43.3 mm → 47.6 mm"
Do you mean that with Zipp 303s it's 39.6 mm with 40mm tire & 43.3 with 45mm tire? And with Peter's rims it's the dimensions after -> ?
I'm in the market for some wheels, but I'm limited to 40mm tire clearance at the rear.. :( Would love the new wheelset to be future-proof (i.e. 30mm something internal width for when I'm getting a new frame)
Do you have other pics from your bicycle with these mounted wheels?
Finished my long distance build.
Specialized Diverge MY18 Frame 54 with 35-622 Michelin Pro 5 TLR 35 (measured 39,5mm).
Great build.
Are you satisfied? How do the wheels feel? Aren't 35mm tires almost too narrow?
ISO Certified tire combinations are within ISO approved standards. These compatibilities are as reported by the respective tire manufacturers.
Dual Tested tire combinations have been tested by both the tire manufacturer and Zipp for compatibility.
Zipp limits the tire size compatibility on 303 XPLR wheels to tires between 40-60mm. Within this range, ISO tire and rim size guidelines allow any TSS-compatible tire sized from 58x622 up to 60x622 (29"×2.3"-2.35").
Did my first ride today (~72km) and I'm really happy with the result. It's comfortable, has lots of grip and is feels quick.zipp gravel tires are vastly different from normal standard tires on thread width, puncture belt and full bead width. They don't allow just any 40mm tire on their xplr wheels but only their dedicated tires. Using normal 40mm tires on 32mm+ iw wheels is mostly okay in tests (yeah they won't get rip off anyway) but they balloon up too much (meaning the badged spec useless and aero penalties) and the cross section layout would be sub-optimal from the tires' original design which results in RR penalties.
But I don't have any data to back that up. I simply believe the latest research which shows that...And all of that without compromising performance.
- wider tires reduce rolling resistance
- increasing comfort through greater air volume as suspension minimizes rider fatigue
The widths match quite nice according the 105%-rule (42mm outer rim width; 39.5mm tire width).
The Michelin Pro 5 tires have an unmounted tread width of 45mm, which is even more than the Pirelli P Zero 40-622 at 42mm. This means that even when stretched, the risk of running off the tread is reduced.
Regarding ETRTO compliance: I don't really like the concept of regulatory documents being behind a paywall. Additionally, it seems that bicycle tire standards are outdated and not up to current requirements. The complexity also exceeds that of car/motorcycle tire standards. While ETRTO is indeed a technical institution with regulatory purposes and its importance is highly regarded in various forums, threads, and Reddit discussions, this apparently doesn't tell the whole story.
This article provides valuable insights: https://www.cyclingweekly.com/products/will-the-adoption-of-tubeless-technology-finally-force-wheel-and-tyre-brands-to-get-friendly
The most prominent example of deviating from ETRTO standards is SRAM/Zipp. They allow a 40mm tire on their 303 XPLR wheels (32mm inner width rim) through their 'dual testing' approach, far from ETRTO standards.

Hi
Long time lurker on the forum here. I just wanted to give some positive feedback.
I ordered a wheelset from xm carbonspeed and have been in contact with Peter via whatsapp. His communication has been truly exceptional, sometimes even replying when it was well after midnight on his side.
It was a pleasure to do business with them.
Thank you Peter!
Kind regards,
Christoff
Looks like a great option
wondering whats the price delivered to Europe for a set?
thanks
J
And here‘s my Tantan GR201.Are those 2.1 thunder burts? How wide do they measure on these wheels?
Thanks for sharing, guys – I'm impressed by your bikes. They all look stunning - great work. A few nerdy questions
@Bambelbie, The bike looks great, the whole setup seems very balanced, hats off! How do you like the Altera? I'm also considering another gravel frame that's a bit more race-oriented. Do you think the Altera could also be used for cyclocross (with different wheels)? Is it agile enough for that?
@Grailer,Great build. I like your bottle holders. Can you tell us the model?
@darario Really nice build. I love that purple! Does the Magene PES fit into the frame without any problems (I'm thinking about the chain line/q-factor)?
@Uberflo, You went all in. Awesome! Carbon spokes and titanium freehub, right? Mega. Do you want to use the wheels for gravel or more for all-road?

Yes, will use it Offroad with 2,25" tyresplease report back when you ride them, very interested in how these handle crosswinds
To be clear, I told you that you guys are the earliest guys who order these wheels, so there were discount for those orders. How much for shipping 1 Wheelset to HaNoi, VietNam and it take how many day ?
T1100 version D53TU-41 wheelset UD paintless built with new R248 lighter hubs 24/24H 36T rachets TPI steel bearings with Shimano HG driver, Sapim CX-Ray spokes, Sapim self-securing aluminum nipples weighs around 1375g/pair, and they are 800 USD/pair excluding shipping,
Same combo built with titanium spokes would weigh around 1330g/pair and they would be 900 USD/pair excluding shipping
T800 version wheelset UD paintless finish with old R280 hubs with Sapim CX-Ray spokes, Sapim self-securing nipples would be 715 USD/pair and weighs around 1445g/pair
Sapim brass nipples would increase the wieght around 35g/ set
Slightly less stiff than steel spokes of equal mass. Significantly less stiff than carbon spokes of equal mass.
Titanium doesn't have any real vibration damping properties. I suspect people often conflate lower stiffness with increased vibration damping.

Happy to add more data points if anyone has measured values to share.
Is it just me? I can't select any options on any wheelset on the XMCS website in ant browser.
Same here :(

Hah, I also noticed that at a time, tried again, and disabled uBlock Origin (ad-Block addon), and now I can select stuff. The shop's Javascript was blocked by the Ad-Blocker.
Yes. It‘s 54 mm.Hi Darario,
Loved my old 28mm corsa's so may try these or the GP500 in 35mm
The 35mm GP5000 S TR will fit same as Goodyear Vectir R XPLR, looking at BRR measurement, the GP5000 has even wider thread and is taller :-D So no need to wait for 40mm.
