Title: Geoid PM500 power meter
Post by: YonyTony on October 30, 2025, 04:09:22 PM
Hi, I’ve been lurking for bargains on power meteres for a while, mostly magene pes515. Today I noticed that geoid relased something, I presume, new - geoid PM500 power meter. It’s available only on AliExpress for around 230$, there is very little information about it available, no reviews yet. Accuracy is lower than pes515, but still acceptable and good if we take price under consideration- +-1.5%. Can’t wait for some actual reviews, it’s especially interesting since geoid already done good and cheap copy/rebranding of cycling computer cc600 (copy of magene c506).

Geoid and magene are linked I think, no? Could be rebranded pes505?

It's definitely different to the PES505 in some respects - charging port on the opposite side (but looks the same), and more importantly, looks to be using the standard Easton mount rather than the proprietary Magene one.

Edit: actually probably still the proprietary Magene mount. Maybe these are custom cranks from Senicx. FCC filings have identical photos for this and the P515 in back-side images, and the manual is the same as the Magene one.

I ordered this the other day and managed to grab the early bird deal for $180.
From what I can tell, it looks like a Magene spider paired with Senicx PR3 cranks

Early birds only show me a bunch of crap now, nothing relevant to me or based on my browsing

Magene spider with Senicx crank? One could argue that's an upgrade given it removes the single bolt clamping mechanism from the pes505/515 crankset, albeit likely a little heavier.

Only real photos I found are from device report. It looks very similar to magene pes515, even internal PCB is the same. Also manual is magene’s.

Here you go, good luck trying to search for something

https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_oo0nbnk

Having said that, these can be had from the coins page for US$180 + 10% tax (for me). That is without applying any coupons which come online today or wait until 11.11.

I bought one today’s morning from geoid store when it was for around 220$. Now price increased and it’s not much cheaper than pes515 so for now it has no advantages over magene’s. Hope it’s going to be delivered not canceled. I am also wondering if it’s going to be Chinese version with no app connection but since I bought it from official store I hope there is chance of unlocking it like pes505.

I asked Geoid this before buying and got this answer:
”Hello! The GEOID PM500 power meter is fully compatible with European use and does not have any regional restrictions. It works with all major cycling apps and computers including Garmin, Wahoo, Magene, iGPSPORT, and Bryton, regardless of region. The power meter uses both ANT+ and Bluetooth protocols, which are universally compatible across all regions. You can use it with any compatible cycling computer or app in Europe without any limitations.”

Yeah I gambled because I was able to buy it super cheap (circa 160€) and since I own geoid cycling computer which is cheaper copy of magene’s I hope the same for power meter - to be copy of magene’s PES

It looks like the Magene P505. I own the P505 and i'm happy with the powermeter. I got the known left crankarm problem. Since it loosened two times, i lost confidence in it. The Geoid looks like the shimano two bolt clamping system. If i can get it under 200, i will give it a try.

Not bad it is advertised as 680g and Magene is advertised as 625g

any firmware update out of the box?

It weighs exactly 676 grams. I weighed it without the lockring and the preload screw, so 8 grams have been added.
No firmware updates so far.

Just pulled the trigger for 169€ inkl. taxes and shipping. Risk seems moderate. If the PM beforms like the 505, i'm very happy.

Is there any Branding on the crankarms? Plain black would be nice. The "PES" on the Magene looks ugly.

I received mine today, not much to say - it’s ok, everything is easy to assemble and works fine, connects with app, cycling computer and mywoosh. I am wondering if pedal smoothness and balance will be available to analyze after the training on Strava for example, or is it only visibile “live” in magene utility app. Looking forward for some pro comparisons how accurate it is. I am wondering if I tightened lockring tight enough- it says 35 Nm although my BB tool is not 44mm so I had to improvise with clamping tool. Question is it possible to add it to one lap fit or only in magene utility? (I already have to much apps for just one bike…)

I have also received mine. Can't say too much since it is cold outside and can't do a full test run on it. Instructions is kind of lacking but you definitely need to zero it before it shows any power number for me. I guess zeroing it is either in the headunit or reverse pedal 5 times (haven't tried and not sure how well it works). There is no "Geoid" app and the Magene app does pair with it but the Magene app seems fairly basic for a power meter app.  Although it does look like a lot of Geoid products uses Magene form factor and software so are they the same?

One issue I did run into might be a compatibility issue. I paired this setup with the Bucklos 52-36T chainring (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008592489369.html) seems like a quite common design from a few other brands too. Not sure if it is the chainline or the thickness of the spider (which I don't think it is) but I do get quite a bit of chain rubbing the big chaining when in the small ring (more than your typical 2 cog). It seems like the spacing between the big and small ring is too narrow. Added a 1mm shim and it seems to work better now (minor rub on the 2 smallesst cog which I shouldn't be using with small chainring)

Yes I think Geoid has to be a sub-brand from magene that allow them to ex étend existing product range Life while the main brand, mageneintroduce new product. If it is, it’s a smart way of doing thing I think.

No, it's a custom PR3 crankset that uses the proprietary interface. It's basically Easton with a notch missing (or at least that's my understanding). Standard PR3 cranks use the old SRAM 3-bolt standard.

Considering it's a missing notch, wouldn't it be compatbile with the Easton interface?

NO, it's not like aston at all. The outline of the easton intefrace curves smoothly all the way around. The peaks and valleys on geoid all have flat faces. Please, I'm begging everyone, take a minute and use your eyes before posting bullshit, you could cost someone good money if nobody happens to correct you.

What is similar is that the spacing on both is for 16 pairs of valleys and peaks, so you could painstakingly file every notch on the geoid and you might end up with a loose fit.

It's way different from Easton... Not just a missing notch...

Thanks for the correction - I wasn't intending to mean that it was compatible with Easton (or that it could be), more that it was a similar size, spacing and design but definitely not cross-compatible.

Does anyone know if you can replace the left crank arm with a Shimano arm (105 or Ultegra) to save weight?
The Q-factor is slightly different —146 mm Shimano vs. 149 mm Geoid—but this could be compensated for with a pedal spacer.

The only question is whether the interface for the crank arm is identical.

Given the Magene PES P505 is also 1.5%, it should be the same.

I encountered a bug after installation. I performed a calibration using my Garmin watch, but although I purchased the 165 mm version, Garmin displays the sensor length as 172.5 mm in its details. After my first ride, the recorded data appears to be doubled. I’ve contacted the Geoid Support Centre and will see how they respond.

Cranklength should be irelevant for a spider powermeter, all relevant measurments for tourque/power is related to the spider BCD and cadence.

Bought it to hopefully mount on a 1x GRX with a 46T Pass Quest chainring.
I now realized I don't know if I can add BB-spacers with this PM due to the crank interface (which I might need to to get the chainring away from the chainstay).
I have not clue if it's gonna work or not but we'll see. I'll report back.

Worst case I sell/gift it to a friend.

Can anyone confirm my suspicion that they are using a single crank arm geometry and just changing the location where the threaded hole is?

This dimension on my crank arm (170mm) looked surprisingly big and I would not be surprised if the actual crank arm is the same length for all effective crank lengths.

Not a huge deal unless someone plans to use this PM for riding over rougher terrain.
On road/fast gravel the risk is pedal striking but if it’s going over rocky stuff you always hit the end of the crank arm on a rock.

I have 165s and they definitely do not have a comically large amount of metal sticking out past the hole (which would be the case based on your theory bearing in mind they are also sold as 175s)).

I found my 170s to look weird. I checked a normal Shimano-cranks and the same distance is 10mm.

I also did some testing on my powermeter and it's not great.
At first installation with 2mm BB spacer and it was like -10% compared to my Kickr, except on sprints where it was spot on.
Reinstalled without spacer and not it's at an "acceptable" -2-3% but not super consistent. After a sprint it's -7% but sort of readjusts it seems.

FYI

Difference between Geoid 500 Crankset and Magene PES505 Crankset

1. The Senicx PR3 crankarms are slightly more outwards curved, while the Magene PES505 are straight and run diagonal between spindle and pedal eye. I always had issue running a 105 Di2 or GRX 12s Di2 FD, because it was rubbing against the driveside Magene arm in the bigring and high gears. Only solve was to use an Ultegra Di2 FD. With the Senicx there is way more room.

2. The Senicx PR3 Crankset that comes with the Geoid 500 has about 3mm shorter chainline than the Magene PES505! I now have the issue that my 34 inner ring is only 1 mm away from the chainstay. With the Magene arms I has about 4 mm of space to the frame.

Tomorrow I'll try to see if the Geoid Spider has a different chainline from the PES505. But I suspect not.

Where can you find the P505 for 2/3 price of P515?

This one, the PM500 from Geoid, is 2/3 the price of a Magene P515 here in China - 1000RMB with cranks for the Geoid, 1500RMB with cranks for the P515.

Since the PM500 is also from Magene, if it works well it's a no brainer at that price difference.

Ah, yes, forgot to post it here.

The Magene Spider is indeed different, only adds 1mm to the offset. For me it was enough to clear the chainstay. So I'm running now the Senicx crank with the 505 spider.

Did you end up getting that setup to work, especially considering the chain line? Used any spacers? I'm thinking about something similar (albeit with a smaller chainring) but the chain line difference to stock GRX seems quite drastic 🤔

Yeah it worked to install it with a spacer (don’t remember if it was 1, 2 or 3 mm) but the power was kind of off. Removed it (the 46T still had clearance, just a bit tight) and power accuracy was better.

Honestly though I’m not sure it was due to the spacer or me just quickly assembling everything (wrong torques and stuff) or if I even calibrated before the test. I’m often doing some chaos work and don’t stop and think.

So all in all, yes it worked to install with spacer but I’m not using a spacer currently.

I would also like to know, as I really want a powermeter soon and this seems promising. Definitely seems like it to so far, at least from what I've gathered from the forum. Other cheap PMs like the Coospo and the Thinkrider seem to have false readings, and the general recommendation was the PES 505 or the 515, and this seems to be the same powermeter, just repackaged and about 30% cheaper than those.

The 51T and to some extent 45T was always kind of shit honestly, but I rarely use it anyway. If anything it should be better now with a tighter chainline. The GRX chainline is way too wide but makes sense for frame clearance I guess.

The "normal" parts of the cassette (let's say 10 to 39) is flawless.

Hey chat just wanted to share my experience so far with the PM500. Installed it a few weeks ago. Swapped out my 105Di2 crankset and it works flawlessly. I'm using the stock shimano 105 chainrings and they fit and shift perfectly. The big ring is not flush with the crank, not even close, but I don't care about looks/aero whatever, just function. Paired it to my Garmin watch and edge, calibrated via edge - seems to be accurate. I have about 200mi on it so far and it's been a joy. No complaints! I haven't tried to connect to the Magene app, just learned of that while reading through this thread. Cheers!
edit: forgot to mention, I picked it up on amazon for $171.71USD shipped. Absolute bargain for this thing.

I'm having the same issue with the Coros Dura. I press "Calibrate," but it never completes the calibration and eventually returns an error. I also can't calibrate it through the Magene app, and it's reporting lower power values than expected. It's off by about 40-60 watts.

Since I installed it about a week ago, I haven't been able to calibrate it successfully. Does anyone know of another app that can be used for calibration?

I've spun the cranks backward five times, and the readings remain the same, so it might be a defective unit. I've compared it against two other power meters and a smart trainer, and they all show very similar values, except for this one.

Same setup with stock 105 chainrings that look .. interesting. (Passquest chainrings still shipping)

With Wahoo Elemnt Bolt also no problems setting up and calibrating, Numbers sounds plausible compared to previous 4iiii left side crank only/Tacx Neo, maybe a little bit higher than 4iiii (2nd best 20min time... on first ride) *could* be because of much shorter cranks fit me better, also had a good speed for that ride and felt spent.

Passquest arrived, color is hefty... Needs some getting used to it, but pairs nicely with the XG4 in the same color. Passquest is about 30g lighter than the same 105 chainring.

Regarding chain-line - I swapped with 105s cranks, did not adjust anything at all, and after a very quick ride i cannot feel any difference in shifting behavior, meaning it should be the same like the Shimano 105 -> FD-Shifting worked without issues for me.
So far, I like it, def. an upgrade to the 4iiii left-sided for the same price before. Now I have L/R-balance etc. as a new statistics and a better crank length.
As I previous wrote, in my first 2 rides I measured a bit more power than before (Strava: "2nd best 20m power"), but at that time I was also fastest since the last couple of months/year or so, maybe because of the shorter cranks that I ordered in the GEOID package, which allow me to pedal 100rpm+ without wobbling my bottoms.
Another big flip side for me: No app activation shenanigans, which might happened for me with other Magene stuff before, which I find a total downturner! Geoid: Install, Pair, Calibrate, Ride (maybe magene pm is the same, but their groupset, radar, head unit had this ...)

... and that's it, seems to be toast.
After a couple of rides, the PM just stop transmitting any Watts yesterday. It always shows "0 Watt" now both on head unit and also in the Magene Utility App. Cadence is still transmitting.
Calibration from Wahoo fails with generic error message.

I tried:

- Deleting/Reconnecting
- Recharging
- 5+ times rewind to zero offset

I did not ride anything of notice, no bad weather, maybe the only thing is heat, it's quite hot here in central Europe, and the bike is in a shat that might had 40ºC+ degrees yesterday.
Anyone has any idea? I just send a mail to support-geoid@geoidsports.com - but i don't have high hopes.

Really not sure what happened here, I will report back if they have any kind of reasonable explanation.

After 1 ride that had worked again with meaningful power output, yesterday, again "0 W".

Retried calibrating with iGPSports, in like 50% of cases it fails with "Calibration failed", the other cases appear to succeed but shows like a big "0" (it were different numbers last time, like 14 or so). Even though, the power output stays at 0W reported on both my head units.
I am in contact with their support, but so far not very helpful, as I previously reported, that using iGPSports calibration worked once, there were happy to close the ticket ignoring the complete unresponsiveness on Wahoo Elemnt's calibration.

You can't fit a 30t chainring on 110bcd bolt spacing. Smallest one that fits is a 33t unless you use oval chainrings. GRX uses 110bcd on the large and 80bcd on the small ring.

Some update on my broken PM unit:

I had some contact back-and-forth via E-Mail (and Aliexpress Chat, to escalate more quickly) and had to make some videos "Please calibrate again" "Please calibrate again using a different device" etc.
After that, they agreed to send me a new unit, if a pay the delivery of about $10, which I did. (I should order another $10 item from their Aliexpress +3 EUR tax and instead the new PM arrived).
I only needed a new spider, but maybe their SKU system does not allow for that, so now, I have 2 alu cranksets 🤷🏻. But the new PM works again, lets see for how long!

One thing though: After installing it back together with the Shimano 105 chainrings (as my Passquest are on another crankset for testing carbon stuff), it is now squeaking like hell after 2 rides. I didn't invest too much time to find the exact issue for now (chainring bolts torqued), but instead I swapped to a newer carbon crank PM - the squeaking is gone, so it is indeed the combo of geoid/their alu crankset/shimano105-chainring together in my BB making the noises.

My brother has this exact setup on his bike with zero issues / creaking

I tested the PM500 against my Tacx Neo 2T a while ago and posted the results on Reddit and wanted to post the results here as well but had trouble logging in. Anyway, now that I've managed to log in, here are the results.

I installed a Geoid PM500 on my gravel bike thinking (hoping) it would offer the performance of the now discontinued Magene P505 at a lower price as the Magene is well proven and I'm happy with mine on my road bike.
However, I have not seen much testing of the PM500, so I decided to do a quick and dirty test of mine against my Tacx Neo 2T by comparing the two fit files using compare-the-watts.com

Results (with 2 seconds offset and 1second smoothing):

Overall

Some low power steps in ERG mode (the slope is the Neo 2T not adjusting resistance fast enough to compensate for me raising the cadence)

Higher power steps in ERG mode

1st 1000+ watt effort in free ride mode

2nd 1000+ watt effort in free ride mode

3rd 1000+ watt effort in free ride mode
(https://preview.redd.it/geoid-pm500-vs-tacx-neo-2t-test-v0-ri7qs2ccturg1.png?width=1142&format=png&auto=webp&s=8b2f223abda079e69e3fa379f371e50d42f5eef1)

 Observations regarding the PM500:
- Tracks the Neo 2T pretty well overall.
- No fumble after 1000+ watt efforts (seems to be the pitfall of many power meters tested by Mr. Lama, including the latest crop of affordable models, unfortunately).
- Seems to be more responsive to sudden power increases (always felt the Neo 2T felt "smoothed" compared to my P505 ridden outside).
- Several drops in cadence can be seen, but I don't know if it's some sort of glitch, connection issue or the meter picking up drops in my not very smooth pedaling (linked to previous point?), but there doesn't seem to be any corresponding drops in power, weird.
- There is a drop in power between the 28th and 30th seconds in the 3rd 1000+ watt effort, but no cadence drop, again, weird (linked with the 2 previous points?).

I'm happy with the results, it's close enough to the Neo 2T and doesn't exhibit offset problems after higher power efforts.

Installation is very straightforward, just like a Shimano crank, simpler than the Magene PES P505.
The most negative point about this power meter (and other Magene spider power meters) is the crank interface, I wish it were Easton compatible.

I hope this post was of interest to those shopping for affordable power meters :)

How is clearance with 86.5 mm T47 bottom bracket shells with this PM? Considering it for a cheap powermeter upgrade for my gravel bike (which would also get rid of my shitty GXP crankset).

I would say as this is basically a PES P505 Base, it will very much depend on the shape of your BB area. T47 was not supported by default, but if the shape is favourable, it might fit.

In the thread there are some feedbacks that it fits wit T47.

Which chainrings are compatible with the Powermeter and a 2x10 Tiagra?
I want to switch to 165mm cranks anyways and the Powermeter is just a bit more expensive than those.

If they’re 4 bolt 110mmBCD I guess just re-use the ones you have.

I had some massive squeaking on tiagra 4700 chainrings. I replaced them thinking it would stop (it was pretty close to toast too anyway) with ultegra r8100, lithium grease on the bolts and torqued to 14nm each and it still squeaks like crazy. Was I supposed to grease the plastic/aluminium interface too? Did you get it fixed?

Where do you set it up on this power meter so that the bike computer also reads cadence? I have a Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT 2, and it only shows power, while cadence is picked up from a Magene sensor.

You don't need the cadence sensor, ditch it. Your computer should read cadence from the power meter if there is no other cadence sensor connected.
