Igpsport released slimmed down version of popular binavi cycling computer. I gambled and bought one, we will see in a week or two.
Looks like only “negative” differences are smaller screen (for me it’s positive change since I don’t want tablet like gear on handlebars) lower screen resolution and smaller battery (I hope it will be a problem to me since I am eager to ride some ultras this year 8) )
I am actually surprised that it’s much cheaper than normal binavi.
-
Interesting! Where did you bought it? On their website, if I follow amazon or their own store, I can only see the normal BiNav and the other devices.
Also, what's the price diff to the full binavi?
-
I bought from AliExpress, official igpsport store. ~196 USD vs 288 USD for “normal” binavi.
I also thought of igs800 (415USD) because I want to have training plans but price difference is way too much and binavi air also has some training plans.
-
I received mine today. For now it looks fine, has all the features I need. Setting up activity pages is kind of weird to me (I am used to geoid/one lap fit where it was super easy and comfortable). Screen is indeed dark but it looks like different kind of screen - I think it will be well visible even on sunny rides so no worries that it’s dark.
Fun fact: my first activity was flight from China (not actual one, it’s just pre programmed :) )
-
are you able to upload .fit files or any type of workout to it ?
-
I am not sure about fit files, but you can create your own workout, use some predefined or sync with trainingpeaks and distribute to device. In attachment example of my custom test training. On computer you choose training and it guides you throughout with details which zone you are or should be. I also attach how training screen looks like (it is the same on computer, you can freely customize 4 bottom panels). There is also an option to mimic real ride - you cycle indoors on routes you have ridden irl, although I haven’t tested it yet - for me it’s pointless as I don’t have smart trainer yet. After the training computer rates how well you performed on each stage of predefined workout, you can set goals to speed, cadence, power zones, hr zones, hr, power, %FTP.
I only would like to have more predefined workouts (for now only 8 are available) but you can create your own quite neatly so it’s acceptable.
-
Another feature I will really appreciate when spring comes is real-time tracking. When activity starts you can share link with anyone to track where you are. There is an auto-enable option so I hope there is a way to share it automatically every time I ride. Other way you have to start activity on computer, share link via phone, put phone back into pocket and proceed- kinda lame.

I use the 603S currently exclusively for indoor - I guess the software is very similar for both devices. I have to say, it works okish, it controls the smart trainer according to the plan, yes. But as you said, there is ONLY integration besides putting it in manually on the app like a monkey is with Trainingpeaks, but no Intervals.icu, which I would prefer and works flawlessly with Wahoo. The workout page is not as customizable as the Wahoo Elemnt I used before, only 2 info fields can be on the bottom, the top and middle section takes a lot of space, so you don't see many fields I would rather like to have. Yourhe binavi seems to have at least 4, that's an upgrade.
Worst of all, on the 603S i couldn't find an option to change resistance level during workout at all, all workout difficulty derives from the FTP which you put in the app. So it's kind of a bummer for me. Never rode it outdoors but I don't have high hopes because the display of the 603S is quite reflective/glaring.
The German translation of the app is also not good though, it is hard to understand what some of the options are supposed to do and the field names occasionally explode from their places as the words are too long/font size to big.

Yes did it. Works Fine

Could you tell how to sen .fit files? Thanks
Is there a way to autocalibrate altitude? In the app I can set my home altitude and I thought it will be automatically update value when gps senses that I am at home but it doesn’t work this way - it’s like a preset so you don’t have to remember what altitude your home is at.
It’s shitty if it doesn’t autocalibrate beacause judging on the barometer altitude is going to drift greatly:/ or I am missing some option
-
I just created a fit file and sent it to my BiNavi Air through the App.
According the user guide, (connect BiNaivi Air to APP tap on the yellow small icon, right low corner of device picture) Tap: Specially Function - Select: How to calibrate the elevation. Then it reads amongst more: Auto calibration of height is done through GPS. This will be updated 5 min after GPS connection
-
Oh I will test it then. I will also read user guide, thought it’s kind of useless as most Chinese guides but apparently it’s not the case here ;)
I left my binavi air on window ledge for ca. 10 minutes and altitude didn’t change - maybe it requires change of position or something. Does auto calibration work for you?
-
I did the same as you did. Indeed it does not change and it is reading the wrong altitude. Here were I am living it is 1 m above sea level. It red yesterday 130m and today 45m. The auto calibrate does not work for me either even after riding. I only used it twice and the first time I manually corrected the altitude and did not bother to further test it. Now I used it for the second time and indeed it does not auto calibrate correctly.
Setting the altitude every time one rides is indeed a hassle. My suggestion is to wtite to them. They are very open to suggestions.
Be aware that until 25 Feb they have Chinese new year. Their response might be a little slow.
I already did wrote to them because of maps updates only work with Windows (Not Apple or Linux).
I also asked for a Magenta line for route indication instead of the green line currently available.
-
Thank you for the test. I reported issue via igpsport app, I hope it doesn’t fly into void:)
-
Last few weeks riding with the BiNavi Air outside. Elevation keeps coming back to +/- 2-3 m mismatch. Which is great given the fact that I am riding between -3m to +10m under/above sea level.

fo those who have this bike computer, can I ask if maps apre based on OSM or IGPsport own maps?
are ok for mtb, with singletrack? Could someone show photo of general looking of the maps?
thanks
-
...to add to this, have any of your reports been replied to and/or resulted in firmware updates? Do you reckon the speaker volume would be loud enough to facilitate an electronic bike bell à la Wahoo Ace/Garmin 850/1050?
Thanks!

It's OSM based but they are optimized by IGP. Therefore OSM cannot be downloaded 1->1 on the device.
MTB etc I have not tried.
Will try to upload a photo but need to know what zoom you like.
200m 100m 50m 10m 5m

Thanks so much for your response.
I'm looking binavi or binavi air for gravel/MTB ride, so just check how Maps looks for outdoor usage, at detailed zoom, 50 or 10 m for example

Here are some screenshots.
The unit is not able to go lower than 20m zoom.

How does it work exactly in your case? You turn on computer and have e.g 125m above see level and then it calibrates itself automatically?

Yes but only when you start riding/moving. It does not calibrate when I leave is laying around my house.

I want to buy this https://it.aliexpress.com/item/1005011540150123.html (https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_c4p1p1zv) to replace my old Garmin Edge 810, and I was wondering if it is compatible with a Garmin radar or only with its own.
it is compatible with all radars

For those who have Binavi air, if you import route in gpx format, the displayed route on device perfect match the maps and streets? I have Binavi and in some case the route is not too much accurate on the map, just want to know if is a tipical issues for this kind of instruments.
thanks

Last weekend I rode a 150km GPX guided tour. Although I haven't been looking at the navi continuously I did not encounter issues when looking at it.

Can someone provide an update on the screen brightness, early reviews suggest it could be an issue and wondering if it got fixed by a software update or indeed if the visiblity of the display has been no issue at all?
I cant decide between the binavi air vs bryton 650. I currently use a bryton 420 (adequate for 90% of my riding, everything works well between the app and the device). Looking to upgrade to a device with maps and route based climbpro functionality, the added offline routing of the binavi and better touchscreen is worth the extra cost to me if the display is of good enough quality and its easy to upload gpx files to the device.
thanks

Igpsport updated binavi’s and binavi air’s firmware. Biggest changes are in new data fields for cycling dynamics and breathing tymewear sensors. I also noticed choosable colors of route on map fields. Screen brightness for me is the same. Ios app hasn’t been updated yet so all new data fields are customisable only via computer. It’s positive that they still work on it :)
-
looking at this unit or
bryton rider 650 or
magene c606 v2.
what should i go for ??
primarily for gravel navigation
climb pro challenge and segments a - nice to have.
not essential

As a Magene 606 owner, I recommend the Bryton https://it.aliexpress.com/item/1005011875566847.html (https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_c2RdZCUh), not looking at my interests, the climbPro functionality is apparently better, as is the ecosystem.

Hi all, im wondering, has anyone with tech skills had a look at these units to see if they are secure?
The latest episode of Darknet Diaries has got me thinking...

My current bike computer's finally starting to give up and looking at this.
Tend to just use maps and data collection but climb pro/ iclimb looks like an interesting feature.
I currently prefer to use my GPS without phone connection and just plug in to PC when I want to do uploads. How capable is the binavi/ air on its own?
Bonus question for this one- the sticky watts issue that Shane Miller highlighted for the binavi- did that transfer to binavi air? Does anyone know if the issues have been resolved?

I've posted about that. Running a 630, and I regret buying it and couldn't return it. Ghost watts never fixed, navigation is even worse than Garmin, climb creature is worse than Garmin, it's like they have a down syndrome software team honestly. Nobody in that company rides bikes apparently. Also can't calibrate a power meter. It claims to do it, but doesn't. The hardware is nice though, but it's a piece of £hit.

I have 2 of the 630s. One of them has a battery problem where the battery only last about 6 hours. The second one still works OK. I ended up purchasing an iGS800 when they first came out, and have been very happy with it overall.

I am running a BiAir Navi. Realy enjoy it. I do not use the spoken directions through my phone. Just use the notification and sound that something is coming up. (Sounds for a specific type of notification are selectable). Climbpro much better than on my Garmin 530. Sticky Watts I have not encountered. Run a Stages l/r PM.
