Re: Rim failures
Nearly everyone is exceeding ISO 4210, the lowest safety factor I've seen is 1.5x, but passing the standard doesn't guarantee reliability. A QA program requires statistical sampling and understanding the failure rate, etc. That is going to be a huge input into reliability and recalls, likely as much as the design. I also don't know how relevant that ISO test is with tubeless, but that's for someone smarter than me to figure out. I've never worked with Zen, but nearly a year on, I am pleased with my wheels from DFS. I'm a fan of THR Industries hubs, and I don't regret getting them built with steel spokes. After completing a bunch of aero testing, the results have me selling a couple of my other wheelsets and sticking with these as both an all-around and an aero wheelset. I dove into their catalogue to find a front wheel profile that matched the original HED Toroidal patents' general profile, and paired with the Aero 111, it's a fast and stable enough setup for my uses. DFS Carbon Wheels
Long-Term Review – DFS Carbon 60/65mm Wheelset After 6/7 months of consistent use it’s time to share a proper long-term review. I bought these back in April Specs Rims: T1000 UXL Front: 60mm – 400g Rear: 65mm – 423.6g 25mm inner / 32.4mm outer width UV profile Hubs: H-Works SR270 – 276g 20 spoke holes from and rear Spokes: 5.1mm wide bladed carbon, Actual Weight: 1231g (vs 1256g estimated) — This was light when I bought them now these are likley considered heavy afet only 6 monts l  I bought direct from DFS Carbon after chatting with Angler Wang, the owner. He was persistent in saying he had a quality product — and to be fair, he backed it up. Super responsive, answered all my questions, and gave me confidence to go ahead. I paid via bank transfer (better rate, no PayPal fees) — and yeah, I did wonder if anything would actually turn up . But everything arrived perfectly packaged and bang on time Over 6/7 months of use, I had zero issues. No truing, no bearing replacements, no spoke tension problems. Just consistent, reliable performance. The build quality was spot on — and the finish looks great too. I have now sold my XMC 50/60s and have a set of DFS 55/55mm ordered on there own R2 hub 21/24H in Titanium Colour picture attached is an example on 3.2mm Carbon spokes same rim rim profile as the 60/65S Estimated Weight is 1157.5grams. Re: Zen Carbon Wheels Xiamen
Hi friends ![]() I am close to ordering a wheelset from ZEN. However I am still a bit unsure which profile to go for. I am torn between the 24 iW / 31 outer and the new 25 iW / 32 outer. I already am pretty much set for: - 60/60mm depth - 3,1 ultralight carbon spokes (dont like the looks of the 5,1mm) - steel bearings - 54t hub I am at 85kg bodyweight (coming from Crossfit and weightlifting). The bike (about to order an X68 frameset) will be used almost exclusively in the flats. Any advice on rim width etc. is welcome! November 21, 2025, 07:46:57 AM |

Re: Zen Carbon Wheels Xiamen
I thought i give my thoughts on them. I had order my wheel just a day before their golden week .. Zara team work around the clock to get my order up as i was due to fly overseas to cycle.. and they did.. but i had to postpone my trip due to the typhoon hitting Taiwan.. but i have been putting some serious mileage on them and they are holding up pretty well. Mine is the version before the ultra light weight version.. its about 1017 grams. fast forward to 2 month later and i had the opportunity to visit their factory and of cos their cold storage where they kept their prize Toray material. We spend some time discussing about Zen Wheel future development and i would say it definitely worth giving them a try. they are much smaller scale compare to some of the others factories so the range of rim SKU might be not exhaustive but whatever they have right now should cater to our needs and the attention to details and quality is decent.. to give you some context, i had been using light bicycle since 2012 and farsport wheel for a long time and working with Zen....i would say they just as good.
