Re: Carbonda Gravel Carbon frame CFR707 If you look at the Giant Revolt as a comparison to the 707 in a medium, the Reach is almost the same (3mm longer on the 707) but the Stack is lower on the 707 by about 11mm. I am 175 with roughly the same inseam and I think the 707 is a perfect fit in a Medium for me with a 90mm stem. I would even go for an 80mm, but not for the length, just to try the ride dynamics. I think if you ride a 56 Tarmac with a 90mm stem, then a 707 with a 90mm would be fine.

As far as cost is concerned. I think I paid about $1700 for both a 707 and 1056 painted and shipped to the UK during 2021 (so around C19 times when things were pricey). For me that was worth it for two decent bikes but you might disagree. I really like them both. The paint work is a bit 'meh' on the 1056 but I'm going to have that repainted anyway.

Re: AXS Batteries I bought some from the RRskit brand.
The battery of the rear derailleur lasted 450 km until the LED flashes red.

The front derailleur has lasted 900km and is still green.

I paid €15.11 per battery in December 2023. This is no longer so cheap, but the price is between 20-25€.

Re: Spcycle New Mold G068 Carbon Gravel Frame I agree on a need for 50mm tires.  This frame looks like it could be used for bikepacking/touring with the placement of all the threaded bosses.  I wonder if someone will make a gravel geometry hybrid frame that can fit boost/148 rear wheels, and 110 front hubs.   (I suppose the rear frame geometry is too short to accommodate a 148 wide rear triangle and either a 73 or 83mm wide bottom bracket.)

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc!
I've broken chains but never a quick link of any brand or type. I reuse them without any second thought until I retire the chain.

If I break a quicklink tomorrow I'll be singing a different tune!

Same here I've only broken chains, but I've never broken a quick link be it Shimano or even the cheap ones. The SUMC and Rider Ace quick links can be bought in bulk. They seem to have a shorter use life, but you can have like 50 of them for not much money.

Re: Interesting Aliexpress finds! - good deals, interesting stuff, new products etc! +1 for riderace. I have that 5 pack of quick links for 11s chains and using a couple. They are fine. Don't stick out or anything. To be honest I keep reusing quick links too and change them only when I get a feel that they are too loose. Yet to break one.

Re: What's the geometry of your dream gravel bike? 69degree head angle.  75.5-76 degree seat angle.  longish FC and 1100 WB.  around 610 stack and 425 reach in a 58.  78-80mm BB drop. sloping top tube.  DEEP headtube. downtube flared to shroud the bottle.   aggressively dropped seatsays. BB386Evo.  Clearance at the rear for 54x700 in 2x with a road 50/34 chainset. clearance at the front - as much as possible.  preferably downtube storage.  seat tube cage very low mounted. 27.2mm seatpost with vibration damping insert.

Re: Gr048 with Tansmission? I've built a few gravel bikes with the Transmission system with the CFR-505 from Carbonda.
All the riders are extremely happy!
I'm a bit jealous now, still riding the old Eagle AXS on my gravel  ::)

The chainline of the SRAM gravel/road crankset (wide) is 47.5mm, which may cause chain rub on a couple of small sprockets if your chainstay length is on the short side (420-430mm).

I contacted SRAM to see if I could safely widen the chainline a bit. A colleague of the person who responded to me had the same issue with a mullet setup. I mentioned that the chain rub would cause some noise and lateral chain wear, but they said he was managing it fine...

I escalated the issue and eventually got someone who, after some back and forth, confirmed that SRAM has 47.5mm max only.
If I remember well, they didn't say it directly, but implied that it would be okay to use a wider chainline if found, as MTB setups allow for much more.
I added a 1mm shim on the right side, which solved the rub issue.

In addition, the app from SRAM to know the chain length, and the position of A/B setup key is not reliable.
It stops at around 38T, so add one link per additional teeth.
And it puts the setup key to A while it should generally tell B. Test both options and see which one works better.

Now, I'm about to build another one, and this time I'll try with XX1-Quarq/104BCD crankset with a 49mm chainline

Re: Best and worst overall quality/value components/tools/gear from AliExpress?
I just installed those Stone 50/34 chainring and they look fire! Shifting is great on par with dura ace chainrings I had previously. For now can only recommend.

How do those chainrings SOUND compared to the shimano rings?

I stuck a Stone 46/32 chainring setup on my gravel bike.  I don't hear them and the shifts are just as quick and accurate as the Shimano 105 and Senicx parts that have been on the bike before.

As I said no difference between this and dura ace chainring. On my gravel bike I've changed senixc single chainring to pass quest chainring and it's noticeably better. So I can say that Stone and Pass Quest are top class.

Re: Best and worst overall quality/value components/tools/gear from AliExpress? Stuff I've liked:

Pimmer PNS clones for bibs and jerseys.  The bibs are really good.  The jerseys are a hint loose around the neck, but for the money, they are MORE than fine for training kits.  I have the real deal and will never spend the premium again.

Spexcel clothing.  Really nice quality for the money.  Just go with one size up from US sizing.  Same with Pimmer.

YKYWBIKE base layers.  Amazing for the money.  Size up one size from US sizing as well.

RockBros photochromatic glasses.  Work as well as my Oakleys, and I tested them for UV and shatter resistance - both passed.

Elita One carbon seatpost.  Absolute no brainer purchase.

Mid calf cycling socks from Shop2855114.  $2 a piece, stay up, super comfy.
