My list of recommended:

E
  • lita One seatpost.
    Dodici handlebars.
    Ridenow tubes.
    RhinoWalk bags.
    Uno stems.
For carbon rims: Deerobust & Bitranz.
    Random 3M Heli tape stuff.
I've had some carbon cages for about 8 years now which are not like the XXX ones but have lasted many miles and still going strong.
TiTo Titanium. Had lots of bolts from them as well as a set of forks and bars and they've been great.
Gararuk derailleur cages and pulleys. Honestly, cannot see or feel a difference between these and genuine but are less than half price, they're practical and look better imo.
SQLab inner bar-end clones, same weight, half price, seem solid.
    Yuniper and powerway lefty hubs.

Not recommended:
B
  • ar tape, inexpensive but most i've tried feel shite and rubbery but not in a good way, just a cheap way. There will be good ones out there of course.
Clothing generally, some items I liked but the sizing is whack and varies too much from one place to another.
OG-Evkin (maybe not spelled that right) carbon forks. I always need to face the disc brake mounts and each one i've had has varied in the lower steerer diameter a fair amount. I give this product a meh. It does the job once you overcome the initial shortcomings.
    Airwolf
Highball Clone - Seattube split after about 400 miles of road riding. No after care and, although it was not a huge expense, it was still a wasted one.

In addition to what others have mentioned.... the tunability through the app is a draw to me as well. I would love to put one of these on my wife's bike (currently 1x11 Shimano SLX). Electronic shifting without needing to update wheels/cassettes/chains/etc.

Yeah that is also my attraction. I don't want a new bike to fit newer standards right now and having something like this ticks that box for me and even works up to 12spd in the future if I go that way again. Plus, wireless stuff is nice and easy to change over from one bike to another which is even better given this works on basically all common cassette types. The downside is the reliably gamble. AXS has lots of long term reviews and I can vouch for it myself so if this lives up to it, then I think its the way to go for sure.

I like that the EDS also uses a 93mm cage which means you can use the garbaruk replacement cage with it and make it a bit lighter too. I've just bought new wheels but EDS is defo on my hit list. @tijoe how is the performance and how much ride time do you get out of a charge in reality? My AXS mech battery lasted about 700 miles before I would charge it, the shifter battery lasted an eternity.

It also helps to post what your budget is so people can provide useful recommendations.
I think the first comment is the best advice, check out the used market. Often the first owner takes all the depreciation when they sell and you as a second or third etc buyer don't lose as much when the time comes for you to pass them on too :)

You can only get these via their Candian reseller (EZBike) who have stock because they are unable to keep selling these right now I believe due to patent infringement. I'm tempted by this and had my eye on it for ages because I really like that I can change the number of gears it can be used for, which is a really good and sensible feature!

I asked to order a set but I don't think they'll be able to until that UK distributor is up and running. Maybe they can...lets see.

They did just reply after a quick follow up and said:

Thanks for your message. We have a distritutor in UK now and could you contact them about the brakes?

I'm kind of excited to hear. Pls share your experience on the ordering process as well (If you know: Can you only order via their website? Additional shipping cost? Do the offer a shipping method with included no-hassle customs handling? Stuff like that ...)

Also, just in case, do you have experience with the actual Piccola brake to compare with?

I run a bike shop and have bled multiple trickstuff brakes and ridden bikes with them. Never owned a set because their price tag is very high but i do like their look and feel, braking on the Piccola is brutal on the 4-pot calliper but I want to get the 2-pot Lewis Brake so expect a drop in performance. For my needs, 2 pot is perfectly adequate and 4-pot would be overkill.

I've sent two emails to Lewis Bike and not heard anything so my plan of ordering did not go ahead. Their website is very basic and i think the website form doesn't send them a message. I have emailed them direct too but still nothing.

I want to find out if they have carbon levers too, what pads they actually use so I can get more locally and what the brake hose is so I can possibly change it. Right now, no more progress on these :(

54
I will order some tonight and see what they're like and report back on their weight and performance. The hose looks like a shimano BH90 so easily replaceable if a problem occurs and there are some lighter options on the market too (provided they use this hose).

I shall be going for 2-piston in silver. Thought I'd add that since they look sexy.

Blown up 2 Ztto M1 hubs.  killed the 54t ratchets  replaced with fovno ratchets then killed the spline that connects the ratchet to the hub.

Have multiple sets of Goldix hubs that I beat on.
Goldix hubs have been bullet proof. Oldest Running for 2 years now trouble free

Are your Goldix ratchets 54 or 36t?

Was this the 54T or 36T ratchet? I've heard of a lot of issues with the 54T. I have a 36T and it has been solid for close to 500 miles. I've cleaned and lined it a couple times, making sure to use a light lube sparingly.

I probably will replace it with a DT Swiss ratchet at some point though.

If you've had to do that much maintenance in so few miles I don't think the hubs are up for the job. My last 240 was fine evern after 10k miles and no service and require a single bearing replacement at that point.

I bought some chiner hubs last year and they were shite, looked good though mind you.

29er / Re: New xc hardtail
« on: September 05, 2023, 11:25:49 AM »
Good choice of frame. I am going to buy an SPCycle frame soon, their lightest one for a weight weenie build. Depending on your budget, you can build a 29er wheelset for about £550-600 thats about 1020g or less. I saw a deal on some J-bend extralite hubs so they're on the way and I'll gets rims when budget allows.

Defo add pics as you go because I may consider this frame too! excited to see the outcome and your build choice :)

I think your post is a little vague and would benefit from a few details that would benefit what people recommend. If you're looking to do marathons on it then I guess you want something with a steeper headtube angle and preferably on the lighter side, too?

Sounds like we should let you beta test then lol

Haha yes that may be best for the community :D I've emailed them but would be good to try it out!

29er / Re: Rigid 29er boost fork with long axle to crown???
« on: September 03, 2023, 02:10:53 AM »
I am looking for a rigid carbon fork with boost spacing and 160mm brake mounts to replace a fox 32 stepcast with a 505mm axle to crown measurement.  All the ones I find are 480mm (axle to crown) apart from a tideace model Mf-F-005 which I purchased on ebay.  Unfortunately with that one the fork is a bit flexible which causes the brakes to rub when I lean the bike over to the left hand side.  I would take 490mm axle to crown but it has to be stiff - I can't deal with brake rub!  Recommendations very welcome.
Thx,  Lloyd

Hey Lloyd - check out this one from SPCyle. Its a 490mm A2C. I don't think I can comment on how stiff it is as that depends on a few factors. I used this on my specialed epic HT and personally didn't have brake rub. I had a Bombtrack in 2019 that had a 502mm A2C carbon fork but it was their own fork (obviously a rebranded EOM fork) but had no need to find who made it. Attached pics of both
