To me, that looks absolutely fine from a structural perspective.

The last 3 forks look a lot better to me. Less pores, much better saturation with eopxy overall and the grinding process is also much cleaner.
That´s absolutely acceptable and I´d be satisfied with such quality.

I haven´t heard back from them since one week. Might have to open a paypal case as well.

I spoke to david from sp cycle regarding the fork and this is what he told me;
''There are no quality issues with the Fork itself."

This is what turns me off.
A manufacturer that considers those carbon quality (pores, voids, grindingmarks) as perfectly fine.

A crystal clear difference in the overall carbon quality while being the same cheap price category.
(I don't expect boutique brand quality from the cheap stuff, but basic low level quality)

What seal did you use and where did you get it? That seems like a great idea.

I got lots of different rubber sheets with thickness increments of 0.5mm in my workshop and I've just cut it myself.

It´s XL in standard colour metallic No12.
(I need 832mm seat height, long legs short torso.)

Rival E1 Brakes with X01 cassette/GX deraillier + Force Crank
Nextie SGX 45 rims (32mm internal width) on DT350 Hubs
G-One RX pro 50mm - 53.5mm wam on those rims.
Richey Switch cockpit (80mm stem)

Clearance in the back is excatly 6mm both sides with a 57mm tyre.
It´s a smidge under 8mm clearance with the RX pro now.

I´m done with spcycle.

I need to correct this.


I sent spcycle another photo and asked them to take a closer look.
This time they responded very quickly and generously offered to send me a new fork and even cover the return shipping costs for the old one. That's excellent customer service. I didn´t expect tthe offer to cover the return shipping costs.

So: After all my complaining, here is some appreciation for spcycle regarding how they intend to handle the situation.

(I replied to the last mail and told them about my reinforcement. Perhaps my reinforcement will cause them to withdraw their offer. I would understand that, and I was fully aware of the risk of voiding the warranty when I reinforced the fork myself.)

When I look at the image, I am more concerned with the roughness of the hole for the brake line.   I can see many rough notches around the hole. Depending on how the fork tube flexes  these rough areas around the hole could become stress propagation areas that could lead to cracks in The carbon fiber  If this was my fork, and I was stuck with it, I would very carefully smooth out the rough edges around the hole and observe it any of the small notches penetrate deeper into the fork tube.   

Your blue arrows show notches in the non structural brake hose cladding tube. That cladding tube doesn´t get any stress and a crack in that cladding tube don´t matter at all. Unlike welded joints, there is also no risk of a crack originating in the casing tube propagating into the base material.
What matters are the notches around the whole in the structural carbon. Those are stress risers and potential crack initiation points for the structural carbon. I´m well aware of all of that. This is my daily buisiness for 25 years.

I carfully sanded those notches (all of them) before apllying the carbon patch. My fibre/roving orientation took all those effects into account. Theclayup got a plain weave top layer that I carerully molded into the cladding tube. I sanded and smoothed out the transition after the curing process.
(the plain weave toplayer also takes care of deflection forces in the unidirectional fibres of the reinfiorcement and also of the shear stresses around the whole (from torsion for example))

Anyone dealing with a larger gap than usual between the head tube and first spacer despite being aligned and tightened down?

I got a similar gap with the Ritchey Switch headset I´m using. I glued a thicker 1.5mm rubber seal to the headset cap to close that gap.

Based on your picture,  the lines and grooves I see show no indication of any carbon fibers being cut or impacted by the rough surface. 

My fingernails tell a different story. I can lift the loose ends of the cut fibres.
The insde of the fork is messy and you can´t see a lot, because they left the bladder inside and I cant rip it out.

I´ve bought another fork to substitute the original one. Still indecided if I use that or the reinforced spcycle fork, which I´m riding at the moment. I vac-bagged a carbon patch on the spcycle fork (uniddirectional, doubled up rovings on the sides of the brake hose entry + plain weave top layer), which covers the whole area from directly above the 45° bearing seat to well above the brake line entry. (I make carbon and fibreglass parts as a hobby for 30 years and I´ve repaired carbon bicycle frames.) Theres not as much overlay of the reinforcement to the cut fibres in the area that is marked in the pictures. And I can´t monitor the area around the brakehose entry for fatigue cracks anymore. Therefore not a perfect solution. But that patch should reduce some of the stress heat spots, that are cause by the messy composite matrix in that area.

So essentially it aint going to break.

I assure you, this fork will fail prematurely in a fatigue test as well as under real life riding scenarios.

I also got a response vom spcycle to my fork complaint.
As expected, they either have absolutely no expertise or—more likely—they want to rip off their customers.
Maybe both.
They told me "A test specimen fork passed the impact test. It´s all fine."

Nice attempt to ignore excessive sanding in areas that shouldn't have been sanded at all.

I´m done with spcycle. I´ll open a paypal case.

Unfortunately, that response was to be expected.
I can't speak for your frame, as I can't make it out clearly in your photos.
But if your fork doesn't qualify as a warranty case / manufacturing defect, then nothing ever will.

So they not only have zero quality control, they also offer absolutely no warranty support.

For what its worth:
I have a bunch of chinese fork, been unsing those for years. Every single one is much better than the spcycle. I also have a Carbonda CFR 707 and been riding it happily for 6 years.
I am an engineer with 25 years of experience, specializing—among other things—in composite structures and fatigue calculations.

I have never seen worse quality than the spcycle forks, especially yours and mine.

I agree, borderline dangerous. Not gonna ride that fork.
I wrote an email with the pictures.
But I fear they will not answer. And untill I see a picture of a better manufactured G028 fork, I assume that's just their standard quality more or less. Which is simply not acceptable.

Manufacturing quality on my frame looks good on first sight.
But the uncontrolled grindung process for the forks is a big NO.
Lots of fibres hurt, especially in the lower part.

How's the clearance with the mezcal in the back ?
Tight or good enough for dry conditions/no mud ?
(My 2.25 mezcals on another bike are 58mm, would be a nice option, if they fit.)
