Component Deals & Selection / Re: 11-34t Cassette

Yip, if it’s flat I’d get a cassette with as small a range as possible - might as well use a couple more closely spaced cogs on a 11-25 than have large cogs you never use on an 11-34.

I don't think the chain needs to be in for long but you do need to shake it a bit to ensure the wax penetrates the rollers etc. Then pull it out and leave it to cool. I'd say that it take a kilometre or two for my chains to loosen completely and roll well. On one bike my chain won't stay on the largest cog on the cassette until it's loosened up so I'd suggest getting the indexing good enough, ride it for five minutes, and then fine tune it.

The only downside I’ve found with Magene HRMs is that they don’t connect as readily to my Wahoo. I’ve found that I need to put on the monitor after my Wahoo is turned on, and if I go out of range I need to take off the HRM for a moment then put it back on to reconnect. No major drama but something that’s tripped me up once or twice.

Component Deals & Selection / Re: Magene P505 PES Base Spider Powermeter

Yeah, I’ve wondered about this too - as much as it is guessing which side is producing the power, it’s probably a safe assumption that you aren’t creating much power between six and twelve o’clock on either side (i.e. when your foot is moving backwards and up). If you’re pulling up it’ll confuse the sensor but aside from that…

1000 Watts at 10rpm is massive torque that'll shred a soft cassette, but the same 1000W at 120rpm is just spinning at low torque and the cassette will be fine.

Watts won't tell you anything unless you take cadence into account.

I've been using an Evkin bar for a year and it's been fine so far. I definitely keep an eye on it and agree that it must be a little dodgy vs a western brand at 10x the price, but I haven't died yet. I think it juat comes down to your tolerance for risk.

My rule is to only buy parts that have hundreds of sales and a good rating, which Evkin seems to manage. For this or similar parts I'd only buy them from the official store.
