I did not find any thread that could give a short overview about chainrings available on Aliexpress.
What are the brands that offer good shifting quality and durability? Not just 1x, but 2x as well.

Some example of the brands that seem to sell quite a lot:

  • PassQuest -> aluminum chainrings, 1x and 2x available, pricing around 80-90$ for 2x set
  • Stone -> aluminum chainrings, 1x and 2x available, pricing around 80-90$ for 2x set
  • Riro -> seems quite popular on Aliexpress, chainrings seem to be aluminum with a thin layer of carbon just for better look
  • Raceduel -> possibly a re-branded Riro chainring?

Any other brand worth considering?

PassQuest and Stone were 100% discussed around here.

I cannot comment on the two above, but I can recommend these AluGear rip-offs: Ryet Aero Chainrings. They look great and shift also pretty good.

I have tried PassQuest and Ryet.... they are all good looking and shift ok... ish. I have gone back to all Shimano for front chainring and cassette. NOTHING and I mean NOTHING will shift like the shimano stuff.

I wouldn't change the cassette for anything else than Shimano. But I am quite happy with the Ryet chainrings shifting-wise. Cannot see much difference between Ryet and 105 chainrings tbh.

why are chainrings so expensive? shouldnt they cost 20 bucks, instead of 70+?

Deckas rings doesn't seem to get mentioned much, but they've been great on my gravel bike and mountain bike.

Just basic fuckoff chainrings are still <$20.
You pay more if you want specific aero/weight/spec or power meter compatibility. Eg. something that fits X cranks with Y powermeter, weighing less than 150g and designed for Z chainline.

Another vote for PassQuest I've got them on a Road Bike and Gravel Bike and right a lot, no issues whatsoever. Love the Aero look. I've run the Passquest Aero Narrow Wide Chainring without a chain guide and haven't had a chain drop yet...

Chinese one by rings are great, 2 by are horrible in relation to Shimano

leonardo_m

Kudos to passQuest, i've been using it for over one year, no issue what so ever

bichler.bua

Using Pass Quest as they bring 48-35 to the Shimano world, works like a charm and definitely recommended.

Have tried various 1x chainrings, as no shifting is involved most of them will work.
Some are more noisy than others, but this will also depend on the chainline.

Second this. Use them and have had no issues

Pass Quest/Sprill is good for 1x, but crap for 2x. Got 2x chainrings from Stone for Shimano 12s and it is great and pretty much indistinguishable from Shimano ones. I would only wish they have a more sleek look.

Open question: what are options suitable for 2x? i need 54/40, not 1x. I havent bought the crankset yet, so as long as a carbon crankset can run these chainrings, i'm interested.
Key question: what about longevity/ i've run 20-25$ dual chainrings (now on Ali they cost 50+), and they dont last. It's fine as long as it's cheap, but nothing's cheap anymore. Is it established that Shimano / premium chainrings last multiple times longer, or not at all?
I dont mind changing chainrings that cost 20. I do mind changing them if they cost 50, and the good ones last forever and cost 75, basically.

I'm using the Goldix 54/40. Shifting works well and longevity seems decent so far, although I haven't put that many kilometers on them yet. After a couple thousand km, I don't notice much wear.
