Chiner frames for larger riders
« on: January 26, 2018, 12:26:33 PM »
Hi all,

I currently ride a 29er built around a Cube alloy frame, but I am very tempted to upgrade to one of these China carbon hardtail frames.

My question is, are they OK for a larger rider?

I'm 110kgs/240lbs, is there anyone out there this sort of size that has had one for a while, and how is it holding up?

Hey Dave, welcome.

At one point, when I was being a total meathead, I was about 230lbs without gear, and so well above that with gear on and my 057 is still new as the day I bought it 4 years ago.

It's my experience, that people are far too concerned about the strength of these frames (or carbon in general). My advice is pick the one you want, do a bit of research, and don't think anymore of it. That said, at that weight I'd definitely pay attention to my seat post and handlebar selections.

I've hit 240lbs kitted up on my CS-057 and chinese carbon rims. Small drops, lots of roots, etc. It's holding strong!

Thanks guys.

It may be a while before I'm ready to order so will hang around for a while and try and pick up some tips.

Here are some I like the look of.

Not sure about the dropout position or the angled chainstays on this one.

Like the colour of this one but would prefer a threaded BB.

Seller of this one is Sobatobikes, any opinions on them?

My requirements are 29er, 20-21inch frame size, 135mm QR dropouts, threaded BB preferred, open to any suggestions.

The last one from Sobato is actually the Workswell 062 frame which most owners are very happy with. I am one of them. But unfortunately Sobato / Workswell seems to be hit or miss when it comes to service after the sale. I have two of their frames and although I am very happy with them, they both needed a bit of finish work and I will probably be sticking with XMCarbonspeed from here on out, as long as Peter has what I'm looking for. Both of the issues I was able to take care of myself but I'm relatively mechanically inclined and it could have been very different if I wasn't. Otherwise, my 062 frame has been great for 3 seasons and probably 1500ish miles.

Thanks bxcc.

Having looked at the actual frame geometry I reckon I'll be OK on a 19inch frame as the ETT is similar to my current frame.

As such I'm looking at the Fr202 which seems to be one of the cheapest out there.

Does anyone know what bike this frame is a copy of/closest to?

Seller is FLYXII, have we heard of them before?
