Carbon Rim Rock Scrape (opinions please)
« on: April 25, 2022, 03:07:08 PM »
Hi All, managed to scrape my carbon rim on a rock after a small bail. This is the first time I've owned carbons wheels. What should i do about something like this? Ignore? Sand and epoxy? retire? Looking for input. I find myself being nervous about it, especially as its up front. Thanks! Oh these are ICAN 935E.

Assuming it was from a scrape against a rock, my unprofessional would be that it is just cosmetic.

I’d ride on them

As long as you don’t get any radiating cracks you’re probably OK. Damage looks fairly superficial.

I wouldn’t go dropping into double black diamonds on that, but it could easily be stable for years under reasonable average riding conditions.

Nothing to worry about. My MTB rims have many scratches of similar depth like that. The carbon is not damaged.
From optical point of view you can use nail polish or a car scratch remover to cover it a bit.
