« on: March 06, 2023, 12:59:58 PM »
I have just ordered a set off 440mm bars as that is what I have on my CUBE road bike but wanted to check what orhers use on gravel!

Thanks

I'm currently running 41/42cm drops with 55cm flared drops. I was previously using Ritchey Comp Beacon flared bars at 44cm and 59cm flared drops. The Ritchey bars were better navigating technical single track, but was less aero on the road. My current bars are definitely more road aero, but don't offer the same stability on the trail, but still very good. I think it really depends on the conditions you ride in and what your body feels comfortable using.

Bar width will depend on peoples sizes. Reach of the bar is also a factor to keep in mind.  Supposedly the hoods/shifters should match your shoulder width.

42cm wide has always worked for me. I prefer shorter reach as well.

I have 46 cm bars on my gravel bike. I'm fairly large (190 cm) and I like having more leverage on rough trails.

I ride 42 cm bars on my road bike.

440-575 flared droppers on my gravel, one road, and one 29er hardtail bikes.  (I've always been a wider is better type of rider.)

I'm just naturally more narrow than most due to my size.  I'm 5'5" with 380-ish mm between shoulder sockets and pretty flexible.   I make a terrible wind break for anyone directly behind me.

I always enjoyed breaking wind on riders your size.

6'1''(185cm), 40 cm shoulder witdh(taken from the acromion protusions) I went from the flared bar Deda Gravel 100 "46cm"(43.5 cm center to center) to the same model in "42cm"(39.5cm center to center) and it made a big difference on comfort.

I wanted the wider bars for my handlebar bag but it's not comfortable on longer rides.

As narrow as possible on the road bike. On the gravel bike I ride 42cm. At least for me on gravel it is more about comfort for long distance adventures than outright speed. Also, if you're planning on fitting a handlebar bag at any point you'll probably struggle with anything less than 40. Unless you're using a really small one, that is.
