Evo rims have a slightly lighter layup



the cross section or rather aerodynamic profile of the spokes. The pilllar 142x series are flat bladed spokes with a rectangular cross section, wing 20 are 1.2 mm thick aero spokes with an elliptical cross section, and cx-ray are elliptical with a 0.9mm thickness. The cx-rays are simply faster.

The hubs seem fine other than the imbalanced spoke layout. Dt hubs are extremely durable and reliable, as well as having widely available spare parts. Their popularity also means basically every mechanic will know how to service them.

i used to buy cx ray, and in the last batch i ordered pillar wing 20 because i read somewhere they were at least as robust for the same performances / specs. Is there truth to that, or is it always worth spending a bit more for the cx ray?

Old wind tunnel test results showing roughly just one watt of speed advantage for CX Ray spokes over round DB spokes-seems like the difference between flat bladed and elliptical spokes would be even less.

Wind tunnels can't measure rotational drag, that said wing 20s are very strong spokes
