IP-256sl framesize

I'm close to ordering a IP-256sl frame of XMIplay, but I'm having doubts about the framesize I should get. I'm 1,78 tall, and have an inseam of about 81. Normally I would go for a 18"of 18,5" bike, but the IP-256sl is only in 17,5"of 19" (my current bike is a speci epic 18"26'er). I'm a afraid 19" is too big, and too big is worse than a bit small Is 17,5 a M, 19" a L?

What do you guys recon, is a 17,5" a good choice? Maybe combined with a long stem (short legs in comparison to my height).

Anybody from NL that owns a 17,5" I could take a look at (and maybe sit on as wel )?

IP256 has fairly long TT so you will be perfectly fine with 17.5 inch, I'm 1.82m and will take it as well if I decide to build 29er instead of 650b.

One thing to note is the stem size, 17.5 frame would be good for you with ~90mm stem, if you want shorter stem, then larger frame.

I'm own a 19" IP256SL with a 9cm stem. No problem if you want to take a look and/or ride. I'm 1,86m tall. No idea of my inseam. (Location: Apeldoorn, The Netherlands)

I'm 178 too but with 88cm inseam.
Had the same in-the-middle issue, and did choose the 19".
It had about the same sizes (especially the stack/reach) of my previous bike that wasn't giving me any pain or discomfort.

With a 90mm stem, and a seatpost with 2.5cm back offset.
The bike fits perfectly(knees just over the pedals. No pain after long rides, etc.)

I'm near Brussels.
A shopping distance for our US friends.
But another country for us

Let me know if you'd like me to take some real measurement dropping the seatpost for 5-7cm.

I am 178cm with a true inseam (as measured, not pant size) of 82cm.  If you add my clipless shoes, my inseam jumps to 84-85cm.  I have the 19" IP-256SL with a 80mm stem.  The standover in the middle of the top tube is just touching me.  So I will estimate the standover height of the 19" to be ~84-85cm.  I also found the effective top tube length to be much shorter than my size "Large" Giant Anthem X 29er.  Overall, the 19" IP-256 fits me VERY well.  I do not reach too far and I am not uncomfortable standing over it.  I do prefer a bit more of a "Race" position on the bike, but this one is fairly relaxed.

The problem with 29ers is that the 17.5" M size frames will suffer from toe overlap if you use flats.

That is an annoying problem.  I get that with my road bike if I'm riding not clipped in.

Hmm, opinions starts to differ Hope some more (Dutch) riders that ride a 17,5" will come forward.

Looks like more people buy the 19" frame, which I would do, weren't it for my small legs De 81 inseam I have is measured as well (by a pro, not myself). I never ride flats, it's all XC with SPD-cleats. Only ride in the Netherlands and Belgium and want something faster dan my 26" fully that will be for sale.

This weekend I was in Nijmegen at the event City Downhill Nijmegen 2014. Very nice event. If you post a week earlier, I could take my bike with me

I actually live Nijmegen, would have been a coïncidence (altough I wasn't in Nijmegen last weekend) I do ride both the Posbank en the trail in Nijmegen (which is one of the nicest in the Netherlands, outside Limburg, I think).

Hope that this forum will grow a bit. Love the MTBr-thread as well, but it's too long Would be better to treat every question in a different thread :)Quite sure I need some answers when the building starts

Another thing of note is that IP-256SL is almost exact copy of Scott Scale 9xx series (1mm diff. in chainstay, rest the same) so you can just go to your local retail, ride a few Scotts and see which size fits you best

Thnx, that is  a good advice (although it's a bit harsh for my local retailer. But hey, I've spend enough money in there last years)
