XMIPLAY IP-057 Cable Routing

Hi everyone.

New member here, have just received my IP-057 from Jason at XMIPLAY, so far it looks pretty good.  But I have some questions regarding the cable routing as no details came with the bike.

For the rear dérailleur, I note a thin liner already installed in the frame.  And this liner fits the Shimano cables I will use nicely.  So here I guess I just add some outer cable sheath on the portion of liner outside the frame, and trim the liner so that really stops just a bit short of where it comes out the frame.  Does this sound right?

For the rear brake I really have no idea what should happen here.  The already installed liner here is thicker than for the dérailleur, but what do I do with it? I presume it has to come out and be replaced with the brake hose? Do we tape the two together and pull through?  Will the brake hose fit into the openings in the frame?

For the rear derailleur (and also front if you mount one), yes, you run bare cable through the frame with housings sized to the correct length outside the frame.  Be sure to use a ferrule (end cap) on the ends of the housings.  I suspect those who do not know to use a cable ferrule have shifting problems.

For the brake line, disconnect the line at the lever, and feed the cable from the brake caliper end towards the top tube.  Cut the hose to length and connect it back to the lever with a new barb and olive attached to the line.  There are several Youtube videos on how to shorten a brake line you can view.  Look for a video with a "no bleed" approach and that will also save you some time and effort.

When threading the brake line, how does the already installed plastic line (with the tape at each end to stop it falling out) assist?  Do I join these two lines together?

And do I need to drill out any holes, or should the brake line fit through the holes provided?

You can remove those lines with the tape, you do not need them.  You should not need to drill anything.

I had the same thought as you.. Thought I could attach the brake line to the plastic tubing to help thread it through, but it didn't work at all lol. Just remove the tubing and start from the bottom near the chainstay. No need to drill anything at all. Just takes a bit of effort to push the brake line through inch by inch. Be sure to put your fitting on the line that fits into the cable opening on the frame (comes with your brake set) first before you start or your will have to remove it and so it again.

My bad timwa, that only applies when your doing the derailleur cable side. Was thinking of the ferrule. For the brake line, there's nothing additional to add before pushing it through.

With Hope's brakes, you can reuse the existing olive and barb.

I actually reused the ones that came on my Shimanos. I don't suggest it, maybe I just got lucky, but if I didn't have an extra olive and barb I wouldn't hold up a build waiting on them.

OK so got my cables routed really easy in the end.  I did do as I thought and just taped the brake line to the pre-installed plastic line.  But trick is not to pull the line through, but rather to push it through instead, just using the existing line as a guide only.  Worked a treat - dead easy.
