Bad threads on frame
« on: April 30, 2025, 11:03:10 AM »
Hi guys,

I received a frame with terrible rear axel threads and the back pin won't even go in. I am afraid of ruining the frame and have also ordered an original thru axel.

Is it any chance I can save the frame and fix the threads here? And is it easy or should I try to find a mechanic that can help me out?

Pictures attached.

Any help is really appreciated!

Those do look terrible. Is that how they came out of the box or after you tried installing the thru axle?
Are you using the stock axle that came with the frame or a third party axle?

Whatever axle you ordered must match the pitch and length of the threads. I am not super mechanically inclined and would rather have a more competent mechanic take care of this or me.

Maybe find a mechanic to thread it with the correct tool.

Disclaimer : I am not an expert.

From which seller comes from the frame ? Have you contacted the seller ?

It was terrible before and tried to screw in the axle. So it have likely gotten worse. I do maybe believe that a light retread and an original pin will do it.

Apexstorm is the seller and he have been responsive and offered a new thru axle and bottle cages. But I just want the bike on the road.

and I do know the risk buying a replica, but still hurts the soul

Did you put grease before inserting the thru axle? Maybe putting a ton of grease and lightly retreading the threads might fix it. Also I'd get at least 2 replacement hangers.

Almost off topic : For the threaded bottom bracket (and front thru axle), carefully clean the shell from any carbon dust or anything. Use an anti seize and never force the thread. You have to be able to screw it with your hand.

Not only did you buy a full on illegal fake, but from a random ass seller. Well done.
Fast on the flat. And nowhere else.
