Re: The Shiny New AM831 Group Buy (A) Thread! Next spring I'll be adding my girlfriend to the mix of AM831 riders. Hopefully with the JJJ fix and her ~55 kilo size it'll be "good enough". Not sure how it'll go when I eventually get to painting mine up - I'm north of 100 kilos and I ride hard and fast, so I assume the JJJ fix will not be enough.

For now, enjoy some preview shots of her bike now that it's in it's cure/bake phase in the paint room. I think this one came out OK, but I got a bit more orange peel in the clear than I wanted - I was pushing the temperatures when doing this as late in the season as it is. For heating/money reasons, my paint room is really only viable April-September, unfortunately. Fortunately my clear build is quite a bit thicker than standard so I can paint correct it without too much issue sometime over the winter once it's 100% cured. It also does have a few more specs in the paint job than I would normally like, but I just finished another paint project immediately prior to this one that I nailed almost perfectly, and did a sub-par job cleaning between the two. I have been assured the rider does not mind.

Naming your knockoff bike after another brand or something? Nah. Naming your knockoff brand after your cat? Indeed.

Please note, the font on the down tube and cat prints on the top tube were rider's choice.

For myself, I'm thinking of doing a candy blue to candy green fade (this means you could see the carbon underneath) with metallic silver writing - with a different font, of course.

Re: Carbonda FM 1003 / Flybike FM 1266 180mm "Super Enduro" Doesn't seem that low, seems pretty good for an aggressive bike to me.

Re: Tideace 2022 29er Boost 12*148mm New Mold MTB029 I received mine with fork on Friday. I'm going to do an inspection and partial assemble of BB/Crank, headset, and brake mounts to check alignment and report if mine has similar issues to Carbonazza. So far the headset bearing races do not look great either.

I will do any sanding/epoxy work as needed at that point, and then send it to the paint room. As this is going to be a gravel/commuter/monstercross bike, I'm thinking it's going to need to be as obnoxious as possible. VERY tempted to do a bight yellow to neon pink fade with pearl black lettering, but all neons lose their lustre over time in the sun. Open to suggestions on that one!

Another idea is to do a blue/purple chameleon with bright yellow, about 60/40 of each one way or another.

Re: Tideace 2022 29er Boost 12*148mm New Mold MTB029 Threw together some neon fade concepts. Personally I'm leaning towards #4. Still need to come up with a model name.

This forum won't resize photos so you'd better all view it on IMGUR because the high res JPEG otherwise took up multiple screens. Oops!

The place where I paint in the winter lost one of its two boilers the other day so it might take a minute or two before any primer goes on. Oh well. Still gotta do the compatibility checks.

For build, Ideally I'm going to go SRAM 1x11 drop bar style. MONSTERCROSS!

Re: Carbonda FM 1003 / Flybike FM 1266 180mm "Super Enduro"
I see that Sherpa appear to be selling this frame as the Olympus and some build options use a coil shock. Looking at the linkage plots in the first post I would have thought that this frame wouldn't suit a coil shock as the leverage ratio drops pretty linearly throughout the travel, wouldn't a frame designed for a coil shock have a progressively increasing leverage ratio throughout the travel? I suppose you could use a progressive spring on the coil shock, but I have no idea how well these work?

EDIT: Also I'm ~170cm tall and currently riding a medium giant with 435 mm reach and it feels ok but on the larger end (I'm generally right between small and medium frame sizes). The FM1003 geo shows reach for the small frame is 432 mm and the medium is 455 mm, which seems really long! Based on that would I be better off on the small FM1003 frame? The small looks larger in every dimension than my current medium-frame trail bike.

Well, you get all kinds out there. People swore up and down that a coil on the gen 3 Trek Slash was brilliant but the leverage ratio of that bike really wasn't meant for one.  That said, the leverage ratio is quite similar to a lot of 2018-2021 Enduroy bikes, most of which worked fine with a coil - it's nearly bang on the Instinct BC edition, for example.

Don't look at reach as the sole determining factor to bike fit. Look at (E)STA, ETT, Front center, and reach in combination to get an idea. There's a good chance your medium giant has a slacker STA than the 1003s, putting their ETT numbers pretty similar.

Re: Offset bushings with Carbonda 936 or 909? offset bushings only work to slacken the HTA/lower BB. Acedeuce is correct, unless something is seriously wrong with your bike, they will always rotate to the slackest position. On some bikes they can be used to fit a longer eye to eye shock (effectively reducing the eye to eye), but they can't really be used to increase the eye to eye.

On a bike like the 936 which already has issues taking long stroke shocks I would be particularly cautious with their use as it will likely just compound the issue.

Re: Downcountry ramblings If you like the fit of your current hardtail but you're looking for a bit more aggressive bike, drop a Works -2 angleset in it before you go spending new bike money.

As for the 936 pedaling platform - maybe plan a remote lockout? Or tune the shock to just take the edge off rather than being a bit more well-rounded, since you're used to the hardtail life.

Re: Tideace 2022 New Enduro Mold FS838 Being Production It *might* not be a total dealbreaker for a lot of people,  I can't quite make out the standover height/steatpost height off the ground, but if it's similar to the Range it's based on, the seat collar height is so low, most people will need to run some post exposed anyway - My XL 22 Range had a few CM of seatpost exposed on a 210mm oneup post because it was just that low.  Alternately, I've heard some sizes of Range will have seat/rear wheel contact with a fully slammed post anyway.

The total dealbreakers might be other stuff, like how Haideli's last two longer travel full suspension bikes either had shitty beta-test level rear triangles (that totally injured at least one forum user!) and made us either crowdsource a fix or buy replacements, or a slightly better case of requiring steel sleeve to be machined to work nice. This design is substantially more fiddly and complex than those two are. Let's see how this one goes.

Re: Tideace 2022 New Enduro Mold FS838 Being Production Haha fair play Stef. I don't want to get bogged down on the material! You could also ride the original 831 without any fix - but there was risk!
