29er / Re: Any information about ICAN S8 frame?
« on: August 02, 2017, 10:00:03 PM »
ICAN sent me frame info PDFs today, but Chinertown does not allow to attach files this big. Here are download links (first hosting I found in Google):
https://www.pdf-archive.com/2017/08/03/s8/s8.pdf
https://www.pdf-archive.com/2017/08/03/s8-geometry-model/s8-geometry-model.pdf

I was entertaining myself about swapping M06 rocker arm to something lighter and S8 RA design looks like it has less material, but I'm not sure about compatibility.

Update:
ICAN sales person (another Melody, lol) plain refuses to either sell an S8 rocker arm or even provide dimensions so I can make sure for myself if it fits or not. Because "Your frame is not ours ,if not fit ,make your frame broken ,that will be problem". What a load of bs. Why would a chinese vendor bother with parts compatibility anyway, I probably would not be able to make them bear legal responsibility (or would I?). Or yeah, Dengfu declined to provide rocker arm dimensions too.

If purchased i'm going to take the frame completely apart and measure all tolerances and clearances, along with all mounting hardware to ensure it all goes together properly.
adbl, did you decide not to proceed this way?

Sorry for abysmal quality, but I figured these were better than nothing. Maybe I'll have a better phone camera next time something changes on the bike.

Love the color, I'd go for bright green too if not the paint weight  ;D I'm also drooling all over your Next SL, but no good deals yet, too bad. What spindle width does it have?

Not sure what a shock binding post is, but if it is the rear shock sex bolts, I had to grind them because they were a tad too long. I just tightened them as much as I could without stripping them.
Yeah, those. I did the same but want to be extra sure, even if it's only in my head.

How much torque did you guys use for shock binding posts? My M06 does not have any required values printed anywhere.

Sounds cool, I'd really appreciate a look into frame innards without disassembling mine.

Some of the issues prior builds have come across have supposedly been resolved so we'll see if that's true.
abdl, what issues Dengfu claimed to have been resolved? Did you ask them about something in particular?

Anyone know which bushings to order for the Manitou MacLeod for this frame with the standard fitted DU bushings on the damper ?
If you mean sizing, the rear is 22.2x8, front might vary, mine was 21.5x8, but other guys reported 21.85x8. Better measure everything yourself to be sure.

I was under the impression that road levers and MTB derailleurs were not compatible because of differente pull ratios.
True for Shimano 11s, but that's why he's got a pull-ratio converter installed. Look at the small snail-like thingie just over rear derailleur.

Over here if you see a bike rocking raw carbon look, in 95% of cases the frame would be an open mold one. People would usually ask "is that a chinese frame?" or "who's the maker, where do I get one?", and will understand right away when you reply about "chinese carbon". Second most popular question would be about prior experience, which was quite solid in my case. Due to obvious economical reasons big brand carbon frame are way too scarce.

I think the bottle cage holes should have been made lower.
Definitely this, my backwards mounted shock barely clears the bottle. Maybe you should try lower sitting cage or a zip tie, like what Steven did.

Well, it works and feels way smoother than 26" hardtail, more stable. Housings in BB area held in place without hot glue trick. Tomorrow I'll to ride in a more hilly area, but TB didn't cause any troubles on relatively flat hardpack, not much of gravel / sand to make opinion on that.

what adapter did you use to fit a BB30 crank?
RaceFace BB92 30mm cinch bottom bracket. From my experience, BSA30 cranks tend to include a wavy washer, at least my Vumaquad did. With no way to source one, I first checked if cranks fit without BB "seals", which it did. Given the seals are actually more of T-shaped plastic washers, no resin like on Rotor BSA30 counterpart, I just sanded them until crank was snug and didn't bind bearings when torqued. You can actually grind non-driveside spacer as much as you need, because nds crankarm collar to spindle interface has similar diameter and will fit into inner race surface nicely. Maybe add some material with hot glue to shorten the gap.

BB30 cranks in BB92 - done.
Tubeless setup - done.
Cranks debadging - done.
Brakes - in progress. Rear brake hose uses zip ties for now, but I plan to cut and route everyhting sooner or later.

When weather gets better I'll try the ride.

I could not fit my XX1 BB30, the spindle was too short. About 90mm while the BB itself was 92. See the picture. Even without the washers it was going to be too small.
Yeah, that's a short spindle. Here's the thread I was talking about.
