Component Deals & Selection / Re: Chinese cycling clothes

Based on a recent comment here, I'm just trying these on a bike trip:
https://a.aliexpress.com/_Ev2fVmF

And they are great. They are summer socks, so very thin.
The shipping to Belgium was very fast.
All these socks only go up to size 45 which sucks, can't find any that are size eu 46 on ali

Road Bike Frames, Wheels & Components / Re: Replica Factor Ostro VAM

Nice looking Ostro replica there. Anyway, can you show what type of compression plug given by seller?
Because I've experienced it before, D-shaped steer tube is not working well with normal round compression plug. It tends to loose during ride and for me it's so dangerous.
I find that the expander plugs supplied by any chinese vendor is always shit and you have to replace it.
I just buy a default 50 or 70mm deda and sorted.

Just fitted my OG-Evkin mount today, snapped in my wahoo with a satisfying click, was solid for my short ride, took the wahoo out and this was the result

a close up of the damaged tab

also not happy with the spacers between stem and mount they deform below 5nm. (happened with the cheap alloy ones, which have other problems)
These mounts are always dodgy, i'd recommend you message the seller and ask for replacement.
If they rattle around fix some layers of masking tape and it gets the job done i've found.

I have sold quite a few of my open mold frames.  they actually sell reasonably well in my area.  i am able to get 60-75% of the price i paid.  people are getting more curious about the value proposition that open mold frames provide.  i like to split up the frame and group set when i sell though.  i find that people either want a name brand group set for what ever they are doing or they want an open mold frame to build their own thing.
I've found that if you part out a bike you can sell it for a lot more than if you were to sell it as a package.

I honestly think the best option is to go with a mainstream second hand frameset and then build it up with your own "chinese" components.

Anyone that is going for whole bike builds is a super fred at this point since I would have to immediately replace the bars/stems (44cm lmao) and cranks (175mm lmao).
I also have a lot of wheels already so the wheels/tyres that come with it would go sitting in the corner.
If it comes with a powermeter i'd have to sell it since i already have powermeter.
The saddle is also useless since it won't be my preferred saddle.

At that point i bought a whole bike and only using the frame and the groupset.

See response from lightcarbon
"Thanks for your photos, I have sent to our after-sale department.
They said it is normal that the frame is not good-looking, because the interior is not post-processed after forming,
One side smaller and rough is normal, unlike the appearance can be painted.
The location of the arrow below is just a small raw edge, just pick it off, it will not have any effect."
Does  "picking off" the flake sound like a good idea? Seems kind of sketchy.

Did you end up talking to them?

Curious about how the frame rides.
I emailed them today, will wait a day and see what they come back with.

It will take me quite a while to build up, estimating at least 2 months, i'm going to sand back the paint on the bars/spacers/front area of frame and paint it red (similar to bmc colour scheme).

Hello,

I'm looking for some direct mount brakes for my new chiner bike, it has the rear brake near the bottom bracket - https://www.lightcarbon.com/lightcarbon-new-integrated-caliper-brake-road-bike-frame_p131.html
I've been looking at the 105 & Ultegra offerings for this but the direct mount versions are very expensive.

Any suggestions for some cheap options? Keeping in mind the direct mount and rear brake at the bottom bracket stipulation.

Cheers!

Hello,

Just received my new frame in the mail today the lightcarbon LCR0X-V rim brakes.
The quality of it looks what I would call "dodgy" in areas but I'm unsure if any of it is cause for concern, interested in hearing your opinion.

You can see the fork where the lower bearing goes has a "flap", what should I do about this? I can't imagine it will be good for the bearing to rub against that constantly?

Component Deals & Selection / Re: RYET road wheels

I haven't had this happen to me personally but be aware the brake tracks aren't as good as what you'd expect from more premium offerings.
Just clean the brake track after wet ride and pick out any metal that makes its ways into the pads.

My superteams with their supplied brake pads actually brake really good, i use them as an all weather wheelset and for $579 you can't go wrong tbh.

That is probably the difference, I have already built a Chinese frame a DengFu FM066SL ten years ago.

I am looking for rim brake aero frame to last a few years. So I am looking at the top end, hence Giant Propel SL, Scott Foil RC etc.

An Aeroad would work, but they are rare (and expensive) in Australia.

Prices locally:
2015 Merida Reacto 7000 frame with brakes 300EUR (would like the next model)
Cheap Chinese rim brake aero frame + shipping and taxes 450EUR
2017 Scott Foil frame 600EUR (XL I need M/L)
Velobuild VB-R218  with integrated handlebar + shipping and taxes 660EUR
2017 Giant Propel SL complete bike with Ultegra + training wheels 900EUR (ISP cut 20mm short for me)

On my search I am finding out most people do not ride 10,000+km a year ;-) Most do a lot less and rarely in the rain. I can spot crash damage, so will avoid frames/bikes that have been in crashes (unlike the ones I already own)

Still buying second hand has it risks as does buying a Chinese frame, particularly the cheaper ones.

For me I see more value buying a five year old premium rim braked aero frame that has probably done less than 10,000km than a new frame from China.
The giant TCR's are really cheap here second hand, i've seen 3~ year old frame go for $500 aud.
I'm almost tempted to get one with an ISP and spend the money saved on a premium western one piece handlebar.

1. Aero Model - there's a lot that fit this, check out yishun
2. Direct Mount Brake System - yes lots of rim options
3. I want a frame with a direct mount located in sitstay. (Can people who have tried the version in chainstay tell me their experiences?) - chainstay braking is fine it's just that it tends to get full of mud.
4. I want a convenient cable routing because I use mechanical red. Any frame for the most part will be fine.
5. I want the tire clearance to be above 28C. Unlikely - most brake calipers have a max of 28
6.Zero Offset Seatpost possible.

I am a newer rider for fun and exercise. Is it worth it to have a longer plug like this?

https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805075976089.html

or this

https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2251832719440139.html

to prevent damage as I am actually going to have a longer head-fork tube on my bike. I am designing and printing a custom spacer for my 218. I have a long torso and short legs. So I am not getting as far forward as some people.  at least for now.
If you have a long torso you would want a longer reach with a high stack generally which would mean you would be getting further forward than most people(?). If you have a lot of spacers under your stem i'd advise the longer expander plug.

I have a 50mm expander on my forks, the only downside from my understanding is slight weight increase.
