Workswell WCB-R-306
Because there's no topic yet for the Workswell WCB-R-306, I'll kick things off. In recent weeks, I've slowly been building up my bike. I didn't buy the frame directly from Workswell; instead, I found a good deal on the marketplace in the Netherlands. My impression of the frame is very positive — it's highly agile and well-finished. So far, I haven't encountered any downsides. The bike is equipped with : Shimano 105 DI2, crank: 50/34 casette: 11-34 cassette, Wheels: Elite Wheels (the specific type is unknown; I've had them for three years).  building up with normal handlebar:  Finished with Integrated handlebar  The handlebar is also from Workswell, the WHB-027. It's well-crafted and feels comfortable, but I've noticed a considerable amount of flex, especially when in the drops. It could be normal for a carbon handlebar, as I don't have prior experience with this material. I think it's relatively simple to make the handlebar stiffer by closing the hole at the top of the stem. I can't find a good reason for the existence of this hole.   Overall, I haven't come across any negatives so far, the only thing where i am still looking for is a seatpost cover, i have try the cover of an Tamarac SL7 it fits on the seatpost but dont cover the whole wedge   November 12, 2023, 02:44:15 PM |

I'm kinda on the fence about riding a bare copy frame, but riding around on a fake one with the actual brand name is mega cringe.

An open mold is usually a little more expensive. But, because it's a clean sheet design, they are going to design it in CAD and run the basic FEA stuff and use the results to iterate the design. They have both a good understanding of where / how to adjust the layup and the freedom to change tube shapes to get the performance they are looking for. No they're not? Velobuild for instance sells pretty much all their frames at the exact same price point, open molds, replicas, half replicas like the VB168 and so on. You're implying a lot of things here that again go back to my point exactly: It depends who you're buying from. Sure, the more money is involved, the better the knowledge of the people behind the product and therefore its quality. Hopefully anyway. But saying that open mold designers in general "have a good understanding" of the intricacies of frame design is a generalization you cannot really make IMO. There's probably a lot of sellers out there that did not design the frame or they might not even have produced it. And they might not be transparent about it. So there's more to the story IMO. I take you point though that making something work that you did not design yourself might pose a few traps that these companies do not necessarily see coming. The question then again is how they handle it. I chose VB for this reason and luckily was not disappointed by their customer service when I needed it. Would I have bought a Pinarello badged frame from whatever seller on Aliexpress? Hell no. Would I buy another VB268? In a heartbeat. Same. Almost no issues with mine with an early frame (I think, no hole in the BB area). I haven't had issues with the axles, just getting used to having them in the right place to take the wheels out, primarily the back, the front one is easier. I had one instance of the saddle tilting down but hasn't happened again since I applied more torque. No issues with the seat post slipping. No issues with holes in the bars either. Overall still very happy with how it's performing so far.

New frame: Longteng RD301-D
New forum member here, and starting a new thread after posting about this in a thread on the LightCarbon LCR017-D (https://chinertown.com/index.php/topic,4309.255.html). Long story short: I snuck in to the Taipei Bike Show today to check out some Longteng and LightCarbon frames, and at the Longteng booth, I found out that they have an unreleased frame which is undergoing testing: the RD301-D. Here is a short video that I took, and a few pages from their brochure with its geometry: https://imgur.com/a/XvH327j. Appearance wise, the 301 doesn't break any new ground, but a few things stand out: - It has an aero profile but is under 1000g weight - The geometry (especially stack) sort of sits between an upright endurance bike and bikes like the Velobuild 177 and 268, Winspace SLC 2.0 and 1500, Yoeleo R11 - this geometry is a sweet spot for me [edit: the geometry seems comparable to the touted all-arounder Trigon AR01] - Whoa, max tire clearance of 38! - Cool little storage space on the downtube - Threaded T47 BB - Per their rep Alisa, it's made with a mix of T800 and T1000 carbon This frame hasn't been posted on their website, and Alisa said it will be released "in a few months" once testing is complete. The 54cm has passed their tests and is available if anyone is interested - you can email Alisa at longtengalisa@163.com. Peace out!
