Component Deals & Selection / Re: Chinese forks
« on: January 17, 2022, 01:47:07 PM »
Of the 3 forks mentioned (Ztto, Bolany & Himalo), I've only seen Bolany locally. Lots of folks in the local scene have posted pictures & videos of Bolany breaking. Not crack or bent/dent but literally break into pieces. A couple were even on their maiden rides. And a lot of those aren't even aggressive riding.

Do you have any safety concerns with the possibility of this compromising the helmet in a crash,? If you are unlucky enough to fly off and hit the top of the helmet while something like this is strapped on... I don't want to know what would happen.

Safety aside, looks pretty cool haha

I go with the logic that if I can see much better and improve the chances that I'd be seen at night, then the chance of crashing on something strap to my helmet is significantly decrease. Plus, the light can easily be mounted or removed, so I only attached it during the dark when needed. With that, I rather have it than worry about crashing on the wrong side of my helmet.

Component Deals & Selection / Re: Oval chainrings for Road bike

I'm using Stone 110BCD narrow-wide for my single speed gravel bike & single speed road bike. Have put over 4,500km combined and no problem. I'm also using the same brand on my 29er mtb with over 3,000km with no complains as well. I don't know if they have 2x chainrings though.

This rechargeable helmet light. Small enough not to be bothersome on the your helmet. Front light is usable, perfect as backup. Rear light is very good. What I love most about it is the Power ON button. One click to cycle arount front light's settings. And double-click to cycle around rear light setting. So you can combine different setting for front & rear light.

If you look around, you'll find it stamped with other brand names. Some cheaper, some more expensive but they're all the same product.

How can you adjust the tension on such a Frame?

Eccentric bb for pressfit. For now, that's what I can think of.

Zdrenka89, I'll take your experience into consideration. Thank you for your inputs, much appreciated.

Thank you those Gaciron lights look great, anyone using the 1800 lumen model? Might but two of those and one of the 1000 lumen for the helmet, how's battery life on them?

Check this out. Gaciron, it got all the info you need for their products. Lumen output with it's respective estimate duration, product dimension & weight (which might come handy if you want a helmet mount), & other stuff. You can also see what light mounts/holders they have. It doesn't seem to have all their products but it's a good guide to start with.

I'm using the Gaciron V9S-1000. Lots of folks here (including a bunch of my friends) love & uses Gaciron products. This model even comes with a wired remote and mounts. You can get them from Amazon & AliExpress.

Metal Frames / Re: Aluminium Gravel Frame

I think I'd be down for the Koozer, if I had the urge to build a gravel bike. Really liking the look of it.

Just an fyi.
Koozer & Tsunami sells the same frame. I don't know if they are the same company or related to each other but the frames are the same. Could be just rebranded. I've seen over a dozen builts of these brands locally (gravel bikes mostly) and so far, I've yet to hear any complains.

Very nice! Really loved how the pink made it look so lively.
What bolts did you use for the fork? A link perhaps.

The key to Ali-Express or even EBay is the vendor credibility. If the vendor have high positive ratings plus high enough products sold, chances are they got legit products. And a lot of times, if the prices are too good to be true, you'll notice that seller have no ratings or reviews and probably haven't sold anything yet. Stay clear from these. Sometimes, you'll see prices that are extra-ordinarily high, this is a strategy vendors used to denote an "out of stock" status without having to update their product listing. I don't know the logic behind it but that is the practice. For additional boost of confidence to buy from them, try to send them messages about their products and see how they respond. There are also ratings regarding their response and how fast they would ship the items. These are the things you should put importance with, not just because they have nice pictures and enticing prices.

I built a commuter with an Alfine hub and gates cdn components (and regular square taper BB).

Gates has an app and a spreadsheet to help figure out the length of the belt you need at: https://www.gatescarbondrive.com/products/tools

I use their app to check the tension of the belt.

There’s not much else to it, except that “beltline” is more important than with chains. It needs to be pretty straight.

Thanks for that.

Do you know where I can get a calculator to determine what size chainring & sprocket in relation to the internal geared hub?

After The Ride / Help with Belt Drive System
« on: July 10, 2021, 09:34:43 PM »
Hi all. I just realized my Chinese cf frame is actually carbon belt drive compatible and I'd like to take advantage of it. The frame is the Carbon Speed CS-496 (the Trek Stache copy). Due to it's elevated chainstay, the need for a split on the frame to accommodate the belt drive is not necessary.

I have just recently setup the bike as a single speed and want to give it a few months before I go with the belt drive system. So I'm using the time to do some research. The thing is most of the articles and YouTube videos I found are just 'pros & cons' and 'basic info' about belt drive system. I couldn't find any 'how to' and 'what you need' types of info. For now, I'm still undecided if I should go SS or with an internal geared hub. But Pinion box is definitely out due to the frame's design.

Perhaps you guys can help me out. Your personal experiences on building belt drive system or just point me to some articles or videos about how to do it.

Thanks.

What is this intriguing bottle ?
Isn't it too hard to pump up water from that low ?

It's a hydration hose with bottle cap adaptor so you can use it on PET bottles & etc. I use to have that too, I remember they even have adaptor caps for wide & narrow mouth Nalgene bottles. You just suck it like a long straw. I believe the length of the hose is (unless modified) pretty much the same lenght as those with hydration bladder placed inside a backpack.

Here's one...

After The Ride / Re: Forum name?
« on: June 23, 2021, 12:11:21 AM »
For what it's worth, I live in South-East Asia and of Chinese descend. I was never offended by the name ChinerTown. And having been a member in this forum for several years now, I've seen a number of Chinese (both cyclists/enthusiasts and vendors/suppliers) joining this group but it is only now that I see someone considered the forum name as offensive for being racists.

Is this a product of the American woke generation of over complicating things and finding faults in pretty much everything? If so, we don't really need those BS here.
