Did any1 try to fit 2.0" tires? Im thinking ordering some for upcoming event but would like to know if someone already tried, measurement show that it should fit..

You'd be probably a bit too close for comfort. I'm on 48mm tyres (that measures 48mm too) and I wouldn't want to go any bigger. It's pretty tight at the chainstays and the seat stays.

Tufo Thundero HD in 48mm on wheels from XMCarbonSpeed that are 26mm internally. Very happy with the tyres after 1200km or so, no punctures, great grip and seemingly fast rolling.

You should be able to fit larger ones in the fork, I think the limiting factor would be in the rear

For me the frame is stiff enough and the handling is very good. I am 90kg and ride pretty hard and I dont notice too much flex.

I really enjoy the compliance of the frame. In fact so much that I no longer like at all to ride my old aluminium road bike (Canyon Ultimate AL) that is way too stiff and unfomfortable.

I can only compare to my old Lapierre Crosshill 5.0, 2023..and compared to that frame, the G068/G069 is a lot stiffer. Miles difference.
Maybe the ones complaining have gotten bad frames? I did read those reviews myself, but haven't found that problem at all with my frame.
The biggest problem according to me is the paint job. IT is OK, but hardly. My fork looked bad, i got a new one with same problem. Didnt have the energy to complain more..
The frame was better, but as usually its overpaint on bottom bracket, caliper mounts and so on. And on some places where there are mounting holes for bottles etc it doesnt look best. Fortunately the are covered with bottle holders and bags.

Anybody got tips for mudguards for this frame? Everytime it rains I say to myself "if only I had mudguards" (like that will make me leave the comfort of my own home..).

You can get pretty far with the basic ass savers front and rear, it keeps most of the spray off you.

I've now logged around 2500 km on my bike and it's going well. No issues whatsoever. I even had two small crashes, except for two superficial scratches nothing happened.

One thing is for sure, the paint job is subpar. It's already quite scratched up in some places. I guess this is one reason why they're so cheap. Painting requires a lot of manual labor if you want a good and sturdy finish.

I’m nearing the end of my time with this frame, and I figured I’d make a post detailing some issues I’ve had and how I’ve addressed them. Overall, this is a fantastic frameset and I love it a lot, especially with how I currently have it kitted out. The paint is holding up well – one tiny chip on the seattube – and it’s the only frame I’ve ever had where passerby will spontaneously comment on the color (“ooh, sparkly bike!” was my personal favorite). However, my fork has a fatal flaw which, along with my desire for a few additional features, eventually inspired me to make a very poor financial choice and order a new, different frame.

To back up, over the course of several months at the start of this year I simultaneously became enamored with the 1x setup of my commuter bike and got increasingly fed up with the not-super-great front shifting setup of the 2x setup I was running (see my prior posts for pics of that). With the news of XPLR coming down to Rival level, I decided to swap to that groupset when it released, and also consolidate my wheel setup to 700c x 45 mm tires, as the handling with my 650b wheels wasn’t ideal – it’s just too close to the ground and I was getting pedal strike on rockier terrain. This post isn’t a review of Rival XPLR, but I will just say that the lever design really is as good as the reviews claim, and overall the groupset is a good if not totally perfect fit for my needs. 8.5/10, I do recommend.

More importantly for the frame setup, the larger diameter wheels/tires are a much better fit for this bike’s purpose, and they handle superbly, but only with the fork chip in the forward position! Running the chip in the rearward position (~49 mm offset) results in extremely twitchy handling. This also allows for the use of a 180 mm front rotor, which I like for additional heat capacity, as many of my descents drop multiple thousands of feet with lots of turns so any additional thermal headroom is welcome. Unfortunately, flipping the chip forward marked the beginning of my trouble with the fork…

Before I get into the weeds on the fork issue, I had one problem with the new build that turned out to be my fault. I was experiencing a classic seatpost creak, but I had no idea why, as everything was clean and freshly pasted. Running a dropper post means messing with the assembly really sucks, so experimenting with different options wasn’t easily possible. Amazingly, that week's Escape Collective tech podcast had a member-submitted question regarding seatpost creaking in a carbon frame with a wedge-type seatclamp, i.e. my exact problem, and their advice completely solved the issue. It turns out that if carbon paste gets too far down past the clamp, it can cause creaking as the seatpost flexes and the grit in the paste rubs in the seattube. Cleaning the post and frame (down the seattube a fair amount) and only applying paste to the post in a roughly 2-inch swath where it gets clamped totally fixed the creaking, and it’s been rock solid ever since. It was definitely worth paying my EC member dues for that!

Now for the fork, specifically the flip chip. As I pointed out in my first post on this thread, the non-driveside chip/dropout combo is very poorly designed, as the chip is not retained in any way and falls straight out if the axle isn’t pushing it into place. I think that, over time, that slightly loose chip very slightly ovalized/modified the dropout hole, and this was exacerbated when I flipped the chip to the forward position and changed the orientation of this asymmetric ovalization (see my following post for some evidence). The effect of this is that the fork began to click at irregular intervals in an extremely irritating fashion – silence for 10 seconds, a barrage of clicking, silence for 5 seconds, a click or two, etc etc etc for every ride… I couldn’t (and can’t) take it! So I tried quite a lot of methods and materials in an attempt to immobilize the chip:

  • A small bit of butyl tube (as landboard did – see his post on page 4)
  • Single-sided tape, applied to the frame; after this failed I tried it on the chip, to no avail
  • Thin double-sided tape
  • Blue Loctite (this REALLY didn’t work)
  • Sugru (this REALLY, REALLY didn’t work)
  • Aluminum foil, folded to the maximum thickness where I could still get the chip into the fork. This worked the best, but it didn’t totally solve the clicking and after about 90 minutes the foil would get completely compressed by the movement of the chip and lose its effectiveness
  • Soda can shim – this was the tightest fit but was worse than the foil at preventing the clicking.
  • The final, irreversible attempt: Gorilla Ultimate Epoxy, liberally applied all around the chip and dropout hole. This actually did fix the clicking, but only for ~30 minutes before it failed and the noise came back as bad as ever :(

This last attempt also came right when I was building up a new frame for a friend, a frame that has downtube storage, and I got very fond of this feature very quickly, both for ease of maintenance and actual carrying capacity. So, extremely frustrated by months of fork clicking and desiring a silent bike with downtube storage, I reached out to Carbonda about their new AF01 frame; technically it’s under their “Assisting Force” brand, but what a terrible name, and all email to that brand goes straight to Carbonda anyway. It has storage, very slightly bigger tire capacity (which I think will matter more in the future as tire brands converge on 50 mm as a standard tire size, so 47/48 mm tires will become hard to find), and has geometry that is almost exactly the same as the G068, down to the 55 mm fork offset. I learned that the same chameleon blue/purple paint is an option, so I put in an order for that, and it should ship in the next few weeks.

Thus my time with this G068 frame is ending, and I’m going to sell it – look for the listing in the Classified section on this site soon – but I won’t be selling the problematic fork. No, it turns out that SPCycle is able to make a fork that will almost certainly fix this issue, and it should’ve been like this from the start: a fork with a grub screw on each leg, not just the driveside one! I reached out to SPCycle to see if they could make such a fork, and David replied that they could, so I ordered one and it arrived just a few hours ago, exactly as I hoped (see the picture below). So, whoever buys this frame will also receive, as far as I know, the ONLY such fork currently in existence. If you’re planning on ordering a G068 frame and you’ve read this far, then email SPCycle to see if they can modify your fork like this. Though if SPCycle is reading this post, I am begging you, please make this modification standard if it isn’t already.

EDIT: based on klindsey's post below, it seems as though the dual grub screws may already be a stock feature - I hope this is the case and no one else has to deal with this issue!

This post details the diagnostics I performed to be 100% certain the clicking came from the non-driveside fork dropout/flip chip. Feel free to skip it if you aren’t interested, though I’m also writing it to serve as something of a general-purpose creak locater checklist.

The behavior of the clicking serves as the first diagnostic. It is not correlated with any contact point or motion, and occurs when I am/am not pedaling (including when my feet are off the pedals completely), when I am/am not in the saddle, when I am/am not holding the handlebars, when I am/am not turning, etc. However, the clicking is more correlated with road surface: the bumpier the surface, the more clicking, though it’s far from an r^2 = 1 type of deal.

Working back to front, as I wanted to eliminate the least likely suspects first:
  • Rear dropout/hub interface: the clicking did not change when this interface was clean or dirty, and I tried 3 different wheelsets to no effect. The rear axle also showed no signs of fretting anywhere and the fit in the dropout is snug.
  • Rear hanger: no change in the noise when I was using a regular derailleur hanger with a Shimano setup versus the full mount XPLR derailleur.
  • Wheels: again, no change in the noise with 3 different wheelsets (rear+front), and 4 different freehubs, as I had to change from an HG to an XDR freehub on my 700c wheelset.
  • Rear derailleur: no play in either derailleur. Jockey wheel bolts are tight and the wheels have no play or noise. No chain interference.
  • Cassette/chain: no change in the noise when using a Shimano cassette, a monoblock Goldix cassette, or the Rival XPLR cassette. Also, no correlation between pedaling and the noise, so probably not anything in the rear.
  • Bottom bracket/crankset/chainring/pedals/cleats: no change in the noise when this is perfectly clean or very dirty. Chainring bolts are tight, and there was no change in the noise when using 2 different sets of chainring bolts. Again, the noise occurs when my feet aren’t even on the pedals.
  • Seatpost: this did creak (see prior post) but that was unrelated. No problems with the saddle mounting interface either. Noise occurs even when not seated. 
  • Bottle cages: bolts are snug. Noise occurs even when all cages and their bolts are removed from the bike.
  • Brakes/rotors/calipers/pads: no change in the noise when swapping between multiple different rotors, Shimano or SRAM calipers, and stock pads vs SwissStop. Also no correlation between speed (i.e. rotor rotation rate) and the noise.
  • Stem/handlebar: no change in the noise when swapping the stem’s titanium bolts for steel, both in the steerer clamp and handlebar clamp. The noise occurs even when no hands are on the bar. This also ruled out the shifter clamps/clamp interface being the problem.
  • Headset: this is the main other suspect, but the noise didn’t change when I swapped the original bearings for Enduro ones (for corrosion – the original ones got a little rusty), and it also doesn’t change depending on dirtiness, which I’d expect to exacerbate any headset noise, especially if it’s coming from the bottom bearing which is more easily contaminated.

Given all this, and ruling out structural damage (this bike has been babied), and the fact that I could change the click behavior somewhat via different chip shimming methods, that was the only logical conclusion. To pinpoint the exact issue, I put silver Sharpie around both chips and rode for several hours. Only the non-driveside chip showed wear (see pictures). I repeated this after I swapped the chips around, so the threaded chip was on the non-driveside, and it showed the same wear pattern. Thus, the problem had to be caused by the non-driveside dropout/chip interface. I did some very gentle 1200 grit wet sanding of that dropout, in case there were any invisible protrusions, but this neither helped nor hurt. Ultimately, the epoxy fixed the issue for a brief time before it failed, giving final confirmation that chip movement in the dropout is the problem. Considering all this data, and the fact that the driveside dropout, with its chip retained by a grub screw, has never had a problem, I’m almost completely certain the new fork with its dual grub screws will fix the issue.

My g068 came with a grub screw on both sides of the fork to hold in the reversible dropout. Just a heads up...
