IIRC the default position is already as close as they can get. You can only get them further away from the handlebars. At least that's what i've heard. Given how small the shifters are the lever reach seems rather high unfortunately.

Yes, just checked and it is at its closest position. Bummer. I have an other bike with GRX600 at home, and that at is furthest position is still one cm closer to the handlebar than the gex with its closest. The grx set to its closest is almost 3 cm closer, so there is way more range there. Honestly I fail to see why would anyone need higher lever reach than the closest on the GeX, so seems like a weird range to me.

Yep, I see it the same way. That's definitely a design flaw...

Wondering whether or not the new SRAM XPLR Rival 13 speed would be a better buy over the wheeltop GEX. Wheeltop is still half the price, and I'll be using my own crank and cassette anyway. Wondering how much the rival shifters, brakes + derailleur would cost vs. the wheeltop package. Maybe only a couple hundred more? Similar weights, too? And the SRAM stuff is infinitely upgradeable over time, and should carry good resale values.
Wheeltop will support a 50t though whereas the Rival won't. And would need to wait for 13speed MTB transmission derailleur for that to happen.
Fun times! Interested in people's thoughts on this.

Don't forget that with SRAM, you will probably be able to use a MTB RD to get to 52t support if 46 is too small (which I think it is for 1x particularly with the smallest SRAM chainring being 38T). No guarantee since Eagle tops out at 12s so far AFAIK. It will be interesting to see how that pricing works. I see the Rival 1x13 semi groupset (no chainset but the rest) priced at $1408 RRP / 1362 at one shop, which is reasonable today but still twice the Wheeltop price

You also need UDH for the new Rival I believe (A good thing if you have it but if you don't, it's a showstopper)

FWIW, I finally wrote up my experiences comparing Wheeltop GeX and LTWOO eGR and figured this thread might find it useful.

Anyone built a setup with 40T chainring and 11-46 cassette?
I’m struggling to get the 46T cog to run smoothly, it sounds like a monster when in that gear.

Another issue: when I set the tension screw correctly for the 46T, the chain becomes very slack when shifting to the smallest two cogs.

Any tips?

That sounds like a chain length issue. I cannot find the recommended method in the manual right now. But for a 1x, typically you want it as short as you can that doesn't overextend the cage in the low gear/biggest cog.  If it is too loose there, by the time it gets to the small cogs, the cage may not be able to take up enough and it will be slack.  The big cog fit will be painfully stretched for those used to a 2x setup.  A different system I have recommends sizing to the minimum length to go around the chainring and the biggest cassette cog NOT through the derailleur and then +4-5 links as the right length. Shockingly this seems to be right.

I used the biggie/chainlink +4 links now. I couldn't find any recommendations in the manual.
Maybe I should try removing another link.

Hmmm. I wouldn't go shorter than 4. No hard science there but I can't imagine that the routing through the cage needs less than that.

Have you checked the tightness on the clutch. If I'm not mistaken the adjustment is literally a friction setting. If it's too tight it might not 'snap back' fast enough and leave you slack

The groupset is packed and shipped out now. The whole shipping, packaging etc. comes out to 47€. In addition to the 345€ i've paid so far i am at 392€ for the whole groupset. I could have optimized a little further by not shipping the whole packaging etc. but i didn't want the groupset to get damaged in transit.

Hey
i wanted to buy it from taobao same as you did after i've seen your post, but i don't even understand how to register  :-X

Hey
i wanted to buy it from taobao same as you did after i've seen your post, but i don't even understand how to register  :-X

I did it the first time as well. I had to register at CSSBuy and at taobao as well (used screenshots from taobao and translated via chat gpt. I used the phone number registration method). Next I asked chat gpt to create chinese search terms for the wheeltop EDS GeX. I found a seller offering different versions of the groupset and decided for derailleur and STI‘s only since I wanted to keep using my GRX calippers. It was also a bit cheaper. An updated version of the hoods with an improved rubber compound was also included. They feel way better than the stock version that I directly cut off after unboxing :)

So all you need at first is the link of the product you want from taobao. Next you put it in CSSbuy and place the order. CSSbuy will purchase it for you and store it in their warehouse.

Next you create a new shipping adress and decide for a shipping method to your country and for this I asked for advice on their Discord server. They have a really big, active and helpful community. A guy from my country told me to choose FJ-DPD-Tariffless-M:3-20kg because it‘s quite fast, cheap and reliable (my parcel weight was above 3kg because I also ordered a new carbon handlebar via taobao). He also told me to declare it as „bicycle parts“ 2pcs at 40$ when I asked. I paid, waited and finally received my parcel without any additional fees or taxes.

It took from 2nd of June (day of order) till 27th of June when it arrived. Could have been 1 or 2 days faster because I ordered the bar later and had to wait until they put it in their warehouse.

I already installed everything and it works like a charm :)

I just began putting my bike together: SP-Cycle G069 gravel frame, Xiamen Carbon speed wheels with 160mm Shimano CL800 rotor, Wheeltop EDS GeX gropuset.
However, I found out that the brake pads only engage with the brake pads a little bit. I have used the correct adapter according to their manual. However, it seems that the GeX caliper position is not correct.  This happens to both the front and the rear.

Anybody experienced similar issue?  The SP-cycle G069 frame is a flat mount caliper mount, which the Wheeltop geX says to be compatible with.

Check what the 'native' rotor size is for that frame. I'm going to guess it is native 160mm. The 160mm adapters are better labeled at +20mm for using on 140mm native frames.

068/069 is 160mm native for the rear rotor, so you don't need an adapter plate at all and can just mount the caliper directly to the chainstay.
