Hi everyone. First, I must say that this forum has been an incredibly helpful resource for figuring out what to look for in Chinese frames and components, and once again I will try to use you all to get more insight.
I am in the market for a new frame, and I am torn between Spcycle R088 and LongTeng LTK266-D-SL. Both seem like good deals, are fairly lightweight, and tick all other boxes in regards to how I want my next bike to be (UDH, wide tire clearance etc.). Both being relatively good frames that match my objective criteria, I am now thinking that the ride feel should be an important deciding factor also. For example, people in the LongTeng thread mention how the ride can be relatively boring and how LTK266-D-SL is not aero at all, but I have problems with figuring out how this frame would relate to that. Overall, since the difference of 100g is not going to make much difference when climbing, I am going to list the "ride feel" criteria ordered by importance (skipping any criteria I do not really think about):
- Absorbing the road noise. For long rides, I find that my current bike is relatively unforgiving, which I would like to remedy.
- How fast the bike feels, the feeling of immediateness when accelerating and excitement when fast cornering. I imagine this makes riding fun, and I want the most of it that I can get.
- How tucked in do I have to be when riding on the flats; I feel like I am relatively flexible, and the ride position can be manipulated with headset spacers, stem lenght, and seat position. Even though I would like to go fast (=be tucked in), I can't tell which of these two frames is going to be more flexible in regards to how I set up the bike and position myself. It it matters, I am 184cm/70kg and currently ride a relatively aggressive geometry. Both of these frames should allow me to get a more relaxed position in size L/56, but I am wondering about if there are any significant differences between the two.
For example, in regards to aero, both Spcycle and LongTeng feature a D-shaped seatpost, a slight cutout for the rear wheel, and arguably a non-aero circular headtube. However, people in the other thread are explicitly saying that LTK266-D-SL is not aero, but when I compare the geometry to R088 (see here for sizes L/56:
https://geometrygeeks.bike/compare/longteng-ltk266-d-sl-2025-l,spcycle-r088-2025-56/), the headtube of the latter is higher, and the stack heights are similar. LTK266-D-SL also has 35mm tire clearance, and it is impossible for me to judge whether this meaningfully affects performance (given the same tires and wheels on both frames). What should I make of this? I am asking about aero since I relate it with the feeling of going fast -- but since I lack the experience with different frames, I am also wondering whether any of these properties are going to significantly affect my comfort?
Next thing relates to the stiffness of both frames. It has been mentioned in this thread that some flex has been noticed in the top-tube, while LTK266-D-SL uses higher-grade carbon, which is stiffer and perhaps more uncomfortable. I don't really know how to think about this, and if someone can provide some insight, it would really help my decision process.
Thank you all for any insights that you might have. General opinions about whether picking one frame over the other is going to have a noticeable impact in the first place are also welcome. I am also wondering how informed my decision can even be without trying out both frames, as it seems difficult to judge such specific criteria based on frame images, specs and reports from other riders who have only ridden one of the two frames.
