Yeah, they have the resources and the connections to really test the bike if they want to. Something tells me that they won't, but I'd love to be proven wrong.

They could have properly built the bike up with with whatever Shimano Di2 groupset and compared it to an actual SL8. Of course they don't want to do that, because they want to keep up the fear mongering and uncertainty. This is why I was a bit disappointed by China Cycling's comment in the video. Despite acting as some sort of self-appointed "ambassador" for Chinese cycling components, he's feeding into the same sort of fear mongering tactics so people end up buying from his store front instead.

"I always say go for something with a brand / logo on it. Even if it's not a cool name. Why? Then the 'brand' / company has some skin in the game. They don't want pictures of their cracked / broken frame with their logo on it plastered on the internet. If it's totally unbranded, they have less to lose. Of course; there's not one rule to totally guarantee quality. Good video Alex! Love a good project bike!"

Last I checked, SPCycle will put their logo on the bike if you ask them as some users on here have done.

On top of that, the details on the weight are specified in the description of the frameset:

"Weight: Frame 780g +/-50g, Fork 390+/-10g, Seatpost 190+/-10g. This is the weight of the matt(e) black frameset. Metal fittings not included."

Lastly I'm not defending SPCycle nor do I have any skin in the game as an influencer. My main concern is bang-for-buck and figuring my own s**t out when issues arise. Again, if this frameset was crap I would have said so 68 pages back on this thread! In fact it's been so solid, I sometimes get bored of it and ride my other bikes just to find issues to fix!

I don't think it's entirely unfair. Most people on here will much prefer to buy from brands/OEM's with established reputations for consistent quality, or recommend them, even if they personally order their own frames/wheels without logos. Even for the actual counterfeit frames there's a distinct preference for sellers who have history rather than unknown stores.

Unfortunately I think you are right! While I enjoy watching GCN episodes while training indoors, it is pretty obvious that their content should be considered as entertainment only, because any conclusions that they ever make are in line with their sponsors.

I was both interested that GCN were using the R088 frame, the one I / we selected for my / our builds. But disappointed about the fear mongering and mud slinging. Seems weird that we know the claimed 780g weight was unpainted. But the guy being paid to make a YouTube about it didn’t know and was making out SPC had just under quoted their weights! Whereas the unpainted seat post came in bang on! Despite the biases, I thought the frame came across quite well in the circumstances. I can’t wait for mine to arrive! 🤩🤞⏰

edit: Also I finished my build, first picture in artificial light in the attachments. I hope the weather will be fine on Tuesday for the first real ride.

p.s.: Today will be the day I finish building everything (with a spacer on the top, which will get removed once I am sure about the height of the headset and a temporary handlebar tape). Good pictures will follow Thursday, possibly some also today.

Could someone who has already assembled a complete bike with an R088 frame send a photo of the distance between the rear brake disc and the frame? Mine is minimal. Is this how it's supposed to be, or did I install something incorrectly?

It's a tight fit. That's just how it is.

Would this be your first racing bike?
If you already have a racing bike you're comfortable with, I'd base my choice on that.
Anyway, I'm 180cm tall with an 87cm inseam and I bought a size 56...if your inseam is 82cm, I'd go with a 54, no bigger.
You're 178cm tall, so I imagine you have a long torso...consequently, you'll need a relatively long stem (at least 100/110mm)....But it really depends on your positioning on the bike and your riding style.

Sorry for the late answers, hardly found time for anything expect work and very little sport. I can relate how important the informations are for you.

M̀easured the cap for the non integrated handlebars, as the one is assembled. ~29.8mm diameter and the diameter where the c-ring sits is ~38.2mm measured with a analogue caliper.

From memory: The thickness of the c-ring is 10mm, very exact the digital caliper showed 9.99mm. I had to sand it down 0.75mm to get an acceptable gap.

Is the handlebar their Spcycle HB-05?

What saddle is it?

Handlebar is the HB-05, I ordered with the frame. However I can't recommend it, especially for the price. The outer holes for the cables are on the small side, there are rough edges inside the stem from the manufacturing and I did strip the threads of the screws when screwing in the computer mount with 1.5-2nm, which I thought was very weird.

Saddle is the Ryet X6P EVA Saddle.

Got very good deals on cashback (which wasn't capped to 40€ at that time). Should be pretty spot on 1050€ including taxes (and counting on the last 54€ cashback from the wheels to arrive). Missed the under 1k mark, might be doable with a cheaper handlebar and a little bit more patience.

176cm/86cm and I ordered an 56cm which fits me I think probably better than 54cm and surely better than 58cm. But it's my first real road bike (the other one I ride is a rondo ruut al2 in m). Headset I did not specify, I expected to get a 40/10 handlebar (I think it was specified at that time). Seemed to fit based on my riding experience with the Ruut AL2 which is on the smaller side. However measuring is weird. Measuring from the center of the fork tube to the outer edge is more like 12-13cm, but this is what the pictures tell me. I can make a picture on the weekend. But keep in mind I am inexperienced and everybody is different. I'd trust Bonus79s judgement more than mine.

Overall I am pretty happy with the frame (and the wheels) and would buy them again for the good price I got. Handlebar not so much as I mentioned. Inaccurately measured with a person scale it's 8.15kg with pedals (and -413g without so 7.75kg).

I installed a Shimano Ultegra SM-BBR60 BSA Hollowtech II bottom bracket.
Does it also feel “stiff” for you after mounting the crank? When I try to spin the crank, it only makes about 1.5 rotations - at max!
Is this how this bottom bracket normally runs, or is something wrong?

That doesn’t sound right. BBs don’t spin like jockey wheels, but should still spin freely. Perhaps disassemble, check and rebuild? I went for ceramic Ztto BB for my build, the 1st part to actually arrive!
