it’s not a decal. It’s an aluminium chainring with a carbon fibre insert, very similar to how Cybrei makes their rings. I’m assuming from the “decal??” comment that you thought it might be a sticker or something purely cosmetic, but it’s not. It’s an actual carbon insert bonded into the chainring, like the ones from XM Carbon Speed.

To be honest, I don’t think it offers a huge performance benefit — maybe a small weight saving compared to a full aluminium ring, but it’s marginal. For example, I’ve got the Cybrei carbon chainring on my bike, and the aluminium version is only slightly heavier. Peter sent me the Miché link — the construction shown there is pretty much the same.

This lets them make a stronger cross section with less material. Cybrei will have a better weight to lateral stiffness ratio, and with their specific design, shifting is likely to be better

My new cranks are on the way. Peter has said they are Easton interface and has sent me a picture of the spider. I can see it has 4 bolt holes for attaching to chain rings though its not immediately clear to this dunce what fitting they will be. I am after a single chain ring, probably 42 and either an oval or aero for a 1x xplr set up. Can anyone more knowedgeable guide me on what i should be lookking to buy? TIA.

you just need a 1x chainring that uses the shimano standard 4x 110BCD mounting pattern. the easton interface is how the spider attaches to the drive side crank arm.

something like this in a 42 or a 44 with a 3mm offset.

choose a chainring that's still shimano 4x 110 bcd but compatible with SRAM flat top chains like the one linked below for example. the pass quest one also supports SRAM flat top.

Can i not attach an Easton interface 1x chain ring directly to the crank in place of the spider?

an Easton Cinch direct mount chainring should fit directly on the cranks. Not sure if they have a shoulder on the crank arms that might complicate it, but doubt that.

Why no 160mm cranks! Sad face. I suppose I'll give 155 a go! 

Can anyone confirm whether or not the single chainrings Peter offers are narrow/wide for a 1 by setup? Or are they prices just for the big ring of a 2 x setup?

I've sent Peter an email for a quote in any case and if the chainring isn't a narrow/wide 1 by specific ring I'll put the order in for a crankset + spider.

EDIT: Peter got back to me with a quote and I'll finalise the order once I decide on a chainring size. I asked him to confirm that the single chainring is in fact narrow/wide for 1 by, but he did not confirm, but he did quote me for a single speed chainring for 1 by so I'm assuming it's all good.
